... being someone you loved

---

I really like that lyric

It made me think

How long does it take us to feel comfortable with the love of another?

What leads us to that point of comfort?

Suffolk/ Essex

This is how long it took me last time... about 1 minute longer than the relationship lasted. When it was over I missed it so much, but before then I always felt like it wasn't quite there.

Sad really but now I'm happy doing my single swinger thing.

The right place

It’s lovely to feel loved or cared for. I prefer to find friends that I can develop friendships with and loving feelings. I think that’s different from being deeply in love although that can happen too.

I don’t think you can put a timescale on it. It can be very quick or grow slowly over time.

Hiding in the shadows

Heard the song on the radio so many times & loved it, but only saw the video recently at work.

Yes, I stood there watching, yes I cried.

I love it even more now

In answer to the OP.

I'm not sure about love, not something I can answer, but there are some people I just click with, instantly. I know we'll get on, be great friends

Once you're used to it it's easy to take it for granted. Try not to get used to it.

It's a great lyric.. I suppose it's very much where you are and what you allow yourself.. Ive not let anyone remotely close in the last 8 years but sometimes things just change.

When I was younger I think I fell in love ( or what I then thought it was) very quickly. Now I’m much more guarded and it took me a long time to admit I’d fell in love with mr x

I try to not get used to it or complacent, as, even someone who professes to love you can take it away with no warning.

The less invested your heart is, the less it hurts.

I think it depends on the person and the type of relationship.

I make friends easily and can quickly form close bonds with people where I feel totally comfortable and accept the mutual love but romantically I find it much harder to accept. I do relish that content feeling when it does happen though.

"I avoid love. No love = no pain."

It’s better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all.

I think a life with love is just an existence. As the poet puts it I want to live deliberately ... when I come to die, discover that I had not lived. I want to live deep and suck all the marrow of life.

I love my family and my friends but romantic love is just not a risk I'm willing to take any more.

Why ?

Am I being soppy ?

Or too deep ?

Or just a sentimental old fool ?

Some interesting responses, some tinged with sadness, albeit in attempt to protect

It's nice to have someone other than family

Like many in my age group, I've taken it away and I've had it taken away

I get the comment about clicking with someone, an immediate warmth, but the comfort of a relationship takes a while to develop, for me at least and it has always taken adjustment

When you start to fear losing them I guess you have begun to fall. I dont know how long that would take, would depend on lots and lots of things. Great song though.

I find love very difficult, not that anyone finds it easy. It takes me such a long time to feel comfortable enough to really trust a friend. I hold back for such a long time for fear of getting it wrong. By the time I'm ready to accept it they've given up on me! With romantic love, Im not as guarded when I probably should be. I've got it all the wrong way round.

I love this song, he has a beautiful soulful voice.

When i fall in love i fall in love fast. It’s getting to the falling in love part that takes me time because i like my sense of freedom and don’t want to feel like i’m being reigned in.

I also need to feel loved, and shown that i’m loved, before i feel secure enough to show my feelings. I don’t like talking about my feelings (unless it’s tomdonwith my children) so instead i show them.

I’m waffling again

It’s very hard, I struggle with it immensely, I’m not sure if it would have been easier being divorced rather than widowed.
