Steve Parrish has the reg. PEN15, before the manx govt. told him to change to their number plate.

There used to be a 4x4 with the plate MR5 1 CAN, by the looks of the driver she could as well.

Too many of these plates don't use legal presentation standards, often resulting in it being more difficult to determine the actual registration details. Our minds like patterns, so it's tougher to work out a reg if it's not in a format that you recognise. Ok, a lot of them seemingly try to make words that aren't even that intelligible based on the letters and numbers they have to use - I'm often at a loss trying to figure out what they are trying to spell. A lot are obviously using plates from illegal sources or have coloured pins holding the plate on, trying to adjust what letters are perceived. They probably should have police action against them, as any crimes committed would be harder to trace. Perhaps punishment should be vehicle confiscations, as with untaxed vehicles.

I don't know if they are still doing it but up until recently if the DVLA received 3 reports on a number plate that had altered spelling or spacing, they would remove the index and replace it with a Q plate.

This cannot be removed from the vehicle and knocks £1000s of the value.

The thing is you are not informed you have been reported until they take action.

Not according to DVLA website, Q plate only for cars of unknown age or where the identity is in doubt!

Plate displays that are illegal can result in fines up to £1000, invalidate the road worthiness of the vehicle, including presumably the vehicle Insurance and can also mean loss of the registration - without compensation. I also assume that a driver could be subject to license penalties or loss as well as other driving offenses.
