So watched the documentary last night, nothing new except the phone calls, didn’t really know about them..

I felt the program lead you in a certain direction to give credence in a theory they presented.

What are your thoughts about this horrible crime now?

I didn't see it. A tragic loss with few leads. Hopefully one day they'll nail the scum who did it.

I really don't understand how Barry George ever got convicted, scandalous. Just because he was a bit odd and a single tiny piece of gunshot residue.

Was tragic at the time. It is horrible when serious crimes go unsolved.

There are quite a few high profile ones still and given the amount of time involved, they will all remain unsolved unless someone stops hiding the people that have done it.

But from what I have seen and read, a lot of the unsolved ones ate due to mistakes or assumptions early in an investigation.

There was 21 in one night in Birmingham in 1974 that nobody seems too keen on bringing anyone to justice for. If solving a crime doesn't suit the higher echelons of society, it's not going to happen.

. I have always believed it was a contract killing. For many years she presented crimewatch a program that lead to the arrest and conviction of many criminals some of which were organised crime. My thoughts have always been that some heavyweight criminals ordered a execution which is what a bullet to the head.

Was more balanced than the BBC doc on her anniversary anyway

That cop that led the investigation was totally incompetent and was allowed insinuate on BBC that George done it and he brought the right person to court

Barry George being denied compensation is criminal

"He didn't prove his innocence" enough for compo

The treatment of an innocent man by the British justice system is way more shocking than the murder

Btw every far fetched avenue was explored on these TV shows except the most obvious.and most common for any murder.

Her personal life

Scapegoats have always been easy to find. The sad thing is that high profile people are at great risk and many people are given far too easy access to platforms that incite hatred. The high number of female politicians who suffer disgusting threats highlights this, especially in the aftermath of Jo Cox. Our media are often complicit in stoking hatred too. Beware of being manipulated against others who may seem misfits to you, as well as many populist agendas that work for the few, instead of our general wellbeing. Cases that have awful elements also remind us that we are better off without the death penalty, as the mob would happily see people sent to suffer or impose anything themselves as vigilantes.

There is no logic to this. Gill Dando was a T.V. presenter/reporter.

Gill Dando was NOT a private detective. An undercover member of a police force.

Do you really think that anything Gill Dando knew would die with her ? If she was killed then someone else would report their findings.

She wasn't a mystic oracle. Just a reporter.

She had info of a peado ring at the BBC...it was an open secret back then....even Ester Ranzson, founder of childline done nothing about it!!

It’s all just speculation obviously, same as anything about this case, but her “best friend”,a known visiter to underage brothels, and a member of this ring, unbeknown to Jill, was interviewed extensively several times about her murder, her other close friends were not subject to such close scrutiny.

Also Jill will of been in the studio most of the day with calls coming in....pretty much first hand info right there

Let’s agree to disagree cos no one is ever going to know for sure what happened

There's a reason people ask to agree to disagree and it's usually when their argument holds no water.

At the time of her death she had just recorded a series of of Antiques Roadshow so maybe the Grandfather Clock did it ....

IF... she knew about a pedo ring which was an OPEN SECRET..... OPEN.... there was no need to kill her. Or maybe EVERYONE that knew the OPEN secret should have been killed.....

No logic no reasoning.

While I wouldn't want to begin to speculate on the reasons the killing was not the work of an amateur and that makes Barry George's conviction all the more ridiculous but the police were always going to take whatever they could get in such a high profile case. The fact that so many years on their have been no subsequent arrests only adds fuel to my belief that this was a professional hit.

If an employee was commissioned to develop material upon criminal activities, isn't it likely that their employer and/or the police would have traceable records of this? As media organizations would generally have multiple staff involved in what are complex investments, they'd almost certainly have contingency plans, to ensure their investments were protected.

If there were apparently many employees who knew of illegal activities, it would also have been something that many would have been able to and wanted, to take over, should the star have been lost.

Unless a celebrity had personally directed a TV show to pursue and direct police activities against criminals, it also appears suspect that convicted criminals would undertake or commission a murder.

Who are the likely killers of most celebrities and/or women and why? Those with an obsession, male, spurned, etc? The idea of a conspiracy theory may appear exciting to some but it's probably the more likely explanations that are relevant instead.

That depends on how high this ring went I suppose....I think it went, and still does,go as high as royalty.....Diana is on record as saying saville was Charles mentor....who knows wha that could mean??

Also Ester ranzon was a massive star back in the day but never spoke a word about this until it all came public....whose to say the call handlers and anyone else didn’t fear,or were threatened with their lives

Again....i know fuck all....like anyone...but it’s what I believe

I don't know enough about this to say much, except it was totally wrong what they did to Barry George. I never believed he did it.

Richard D Hall thinks it's something to do with the David Copeland nail bombs in 1999, but that didn't particularly resonate with me.

I don't know enough except the killer is still free.

If she had a new job/TV show to investigate BBC sex, the rest of the programme crew would have been interviewed etc. There was no show.

She would also have had official interaction with the police on the subject, if working on it. Or if she was just sickened by it, she would have made crime reports to the police.

If she wasn't working on a Saville show, didn't report it to the police, she was just another BBC employee who knew of the secrets that apparently they all did. As such, she was no greater threat to anyone than hundreds of others.

Those theories thus seem extremely improbable. Hit men don't get hired to kill people of no risk
