I have an incompetent line manager who likes to flout their self importance on a daily basis. She makes mistakes but isn't humble enough to admit or show compassion as she's full of her own importance. She talks to people like shit, would be a bully if she could get away with it and thinks her department is the focus of our workplace.

We are a very experienced, skilled team and don't need her micro management. I have to bite my tongue more times a day than ever.

I've learnt how to continue to be professional to tell her that her management choices could have been handled differently.

How do you cope daily with a shit boss?

I think I know who you're talking about and I don't know how she ever became Prime Minister!

"Fuck them over and pinch their job.... "

I had her job for a year as she was seconded. She messed that up so came back to manage ours. No I have to sit tight again as she's mentioned early retirement. I take fake interest in her plans with the hope of her fucking off!

My line manager was exactly the same but she did us all a favour when she emailed our main boss that she won't be returning to work after Easter holiday

Everything you are saying is probably very accurate but really what can you do about it?

If you want my advice, if you don't want to change jobs, then stop telling yourself it is so bad, stop making a big deal out of it to yourself, tell yourself that she is alright really and keep telling yourself that, things will improve

I'm not making a big deal out of it, just saying how it is.

I have done things about it in the past and it has been actioned. It takes it's toll documenting how shit she is

Start documents about the good she does, might take a bit less effort

I had this... And to deal with it, though I'm not sure I recommend, I clammed up. I am usually a talky, personality in our office and get people laughing. I clammed up for about two months and only talked when talked to. I didn't start conversations. In my 1-2-1's I told exactly why and said if things didn't change, I would stay the same. It seemed to bring them out slowly.

That and one time I shouted at the top of my voice "Stop condescending me. I think I need a fu**ing walk".

Good luck, not a nice situation.

Unfortunately I have to deal with this on an almost daily life but that's because the military isn't a democracy. Its hard to give advice. Do you have a senior person you can raise your concerns with?

Frustrating is the word we use here most days Doughnut and I, our boss (owner) has no concept on reality and what is an achievable amount to make each week, doesn’t spend a penny on the place yet expects us to polish turds but they are still turds.

Don’t get me wrong we bloody love the place but he is very much ‘work for me every hour god sends but I will not pay you another penny, take time off in lieu while I pay someone else to do your shift’ (that person is also the same person who he thinks her shit doesn’t stink and will not have a bad word said about her..we haven’t mentioned the time she was shit storming d*unk when she was looking after the place on our night off and there was a waterfall in the kitchen and she just stood there refusing to help while the celling was in danger of falling down!)

Yeah so anyway, nice place to work but shit people that either own it or work with us, I’m glad we have each other to fall back on each day lol

My boss is there in person but pretty much leaves me to it as she manages a large department which is split into smaller departments, so she's a busy lady. I work in a very small team, organise and manage my own work load with no interference, and as long as my work gets done she really doesn't seem to care what we're doing so long as we don't take the piss. Perfect.

I have an ace boss now but the one before was as much use as a chocolate fire guard! Fell into the job by default and thankfully couldn’t live up to expectation.... and.... left

Great stuff! That's exactly how we would function without her trying to give herself meaning by being bossy
