Watched episode 2 season 8 of game of thrones last night, Arya Stark's scene with gendry was too much to watch for me.

But why?

In episode 1 season 8 Bron was in bed with 3 girls, who are probably about the same age, didn't flinch, so why is seeing Maisie Williams semi nude so different.

kettering

Most likely due to the fact that in season one she was quite young and you still see her as a young girl instead of a adult. The body double had a nice figure though lol

I don't think it helps that even though she's 22, she still looks about 12

Manchester (he/him)

I think it's because we've watched her grow up on screen, literally before our eyes (especially if you've been rewatching).

In the context of the character, it wasn't such a huge step. In terms of us as viewers, it was a sudden change to see her as a sexual being.

I rewatched the episode last night and it was remarkably less of a leap than it seemed on first viewing.

I felt exactly the same! It was like seeing one of my children

There and to the left a bit

I found it a very awkward watch for some of the reasons already given - and it also came across as quite awkward and contrived in the way it happened.

Also feels somehow strange knowing we've watched her kill and not so much as questioned it but yet as an 18 year old (as she is now according to the timeline) her being sexually active felt uncomfortable.

However in the context of the "night before" it makes sense that she would want to take that step, and on reflection I think it was almost intended as a final rite of passage from girl into womanhood for the character

I never even thought about all the people she's killed, like oh yeah she wiped out an entire family, forced the head of the family to eat his sons, cut his face of and poisoned the rest, but get all shocky Mcshock face when she sleeps with someone she genuinely loves.

It is a double standard, just not how I imagined it
