carrbrook stalybridge

yet again the moors local to us have been set ablaze causing severe damage to vast areas with the resultant loss of wikdlife and habitat seems that most of these have been started by idiots leaving disposable barbacues unatended .rangers & police confiscated some seven in one hour yesterday at one beauty spot .what can be done to get through to these morons that tinder dry moor and a naked flames dont mix

All that damage just so some half-wit can munch on a charred sausage and cremated burger. Why can't they stay home and smoke out their own back yard?

It is terrible but it also doesn't destroy habitat it's actually quite good for it and has been nature's natural cleanser and fertiliser for millennium so don't worry about that! The animal bit is horrid but again remember that lots/most live underground or can run or fly so tends to be a lot less than you would think! We're not talking a brush here that burns for days and days!

I do wish they could catch the varmin that do these things though! But no need to panic!!

So true and the wildlife do pick up on fire at great distance. Fire has always been a natural form of regeneration, i work with nature, it runs in my veins, some trees welcome fire as it removes the dead, rejuvenates at the break and there are trees on this beautiful planet that need a hot fire temperature before they ll release their seeds. The cretins that purposely set fire deserve heavy punishment as gorse etc spreads fast and can hit property and leave dire consequences behind. I work with woodland fires regularly and I respect fire as a tool but alas some have lost understanding of the safe and beneficial use of fire and some, well some need to be made to see the devastation its misuse can create, made to help rebuild damaged properties, damaged lives, no wages, no sympathy.. Like when thieves are made to work for the vulnerable people they ve robbed..

Even the temporary loss of habitat can lead to local species seeing numbers decline dramatically.........

.......on a lighter note, was planning a day up in th'ills yesterday, but decided against it........didn't fancy getting caught at it by the fire brigade or even worse the 6 o'clock news cameras.....
