Technically women will be happier with someone within 3 inches of their height barefoot, either taller or shorter.

I think they like taller men for the same reason they wear makeup, they care too much what others think of them and want to be seen with a taller man.

I like short men and to qualify as tall, for me, ya have to be over about 6'3" as that is fairly average in my family. 6' doesn't feel tall to me, even though I am only 5'8" not sure what makes others have a height preference
