I hate barbecues, let me explain why

What is the point of a barbecue? Just because it's warm doesn't mean you have to cook food outside, food poisening, flies, and the smoke going everywhere

If you have to eat outside why not cook it properly in the kitchen and take the food out when it's done right.

I wanted to comment in the other 'barbeque' thread but iv decided to start my anti barbecue thread

Am I alone on this one?

Not liking meat is a pretty good start for that

Although ... chuck me a slice of griddled pineapple by all means

They are so over rated, cost a small fortune because obviously no one just wants a burger and a sausage, so you get all the other meat products known to man to either forget about and leave in the fridge (or worse on the food table outside) and all the sauces to make Asda look like it’s poor sister (that get left in the back of the fridge for months after).

I like gas bbq as less smoke but might as well cooking indoors.

Although having a bbq does make it acceptable for some reason to drink all day, yet having the same thing in door you are looked at like you are an alcoholic!

I used to live with Brazilians, they even bbq in the winter. I love the taste of food cooked on a bbq much better than cooked under a grill. It tastes very different. It’s more sociable and you can all be outside together. Never get between a man and his bbq. I’m sure we will see cock pics next to them later.

Love a BBQ and It's not just the food so much as the event itself.

People are to tied up with the tv and iPhone screens these days so any opportunity to get people together in the sun with a cold beer is good with me.

I make the garden a tech free zone for the duration and people actually talk to each other.

Had some classics over the years

Every year I get the charcoal out and have a go. Imagining delicious burgers, chargrilled chicken and toasted marshmallows.

Every year I spend 2 hours getting smoked out then give up and take the lukewarm pink food indoors to cook it properly on the f'in grill.

I hate bbqs it’s much easier and cheaper and healthier to cook inside using cookers, frying pan etc. And it’s cleaner I don’t really like bbq food but as soon as we get a little bit sun every one digs them out

I like them, but I don't tend to do sausages, burgers etc.

I think that where people go wrong is that they don't anticipate the time it takes to get the hot embers you need to cook on.

I love bbqs. Social side is great. Also really healthy from a getting some daylight perspective. Not enough people get out enough!

And if the setting is right - like a big garden - then games can be played whilst waiting for the food.

Peppers are phenomenal on a bbq. All veg can be cooked in silver foil. As can any fish.

Really flexible and you can cook anything for anyone especially if you have the space.

Plus some of the things you can add such as pine or wild garlic in a big smoker. Slow heat. Really infuses flavour.

Plenty of people get food poisoning from oven cooked food as well.

If in doubt just ask for a bit longer cooking.

The mistake people make is cooking when too hot so burnt outside not cooked inside. Can happen in ovens or pans as well.

There's an art to barbecuing.

If you get the temperature right, and the meat marinated properly you'll have sexy food people will keep coming back for.

I like bbqs because my family all get together at them. Sometimes a huge pool will be involved and alcohol..

I prefer to cook it in the oven and then eat it outside. I guess the bbq advantage is less mess inside from cooking. I just don’t see the point of having a bbq to cook on, they just end up rusting outside.

Now in Oz , I get it. They have loads of public ones you can just turn up and use by the beach. That’s the kinda bbq I like.

I don't understand the temperature thing. It's either 'not hot enough yet' or 'coals on fire'.

Like JimiUK said too. I used to put the food on before the coals were hot enough.

Thank goodness the shops are shut tomorrow, I'm almost talking myself into having a go.

Need to wait till the coals aren't flaming and are red hot perfect time to put your meat on. Fish comes next. Love a salmon on a BBQ and then your other bits.

I've never ever known anyone not cook food properly on a BBQ. I've never ever known anyone get food poisoning from a BBQ.

The only time I've had food poisoning was driving back from Austria and eating at a German services.
