My own dog attacked my 2.5 year old ( daughter) . She was in hospital for a week. My then partner would not put the dog down. The dog lived in a create or muzzel on 24/7.

As soon as my ex was arrested and removed ( long story) . I took dog to vets. No question dog was put to sleep. The dog must be distroyed. End of.

If someone has been injured to the extent of needing surgery then the police will deal wherever it happened.

They will deal with someone going onto the property and causing harm to the dog or owner for sure.

I don't know the law inside out but from what I can tell you can be brought to court for someone being bitten on your property, as the proprietary you are responsible for the safety of the people who enter your house.

Hopefully they will be ok for me all dogs should be destroyed sounds harsh but it's easier than trying to stop the chavs from having them as a look at me dogs were bread for a job that job doesn't exist anymore so there's no need for them

If unprovoked then have the dog put to sleep if my dog decided to bite for no reason he would be straight to the vets but saying that my dog bit a pissed up bloke in the park who was hastling my missus when she had the kids with her he only bit when the bloke tried to aggressively grab my missus arm there for he was doing his job and protecting the family like he is trained to do but an unprovoked attack is different the owner should also be investigated

Who's Roger?

I have a reactive dog, it is my responsibility to keep him and everybody safe. I do this with multiple control methods while he is being rehabilitated, he isn't aggressive, he is anxious.

If he reacts, it's not his fault, it is mine for putting him in that situation. I'd need euthanising for that not him.

If you do witness a dog attack there's little point in attacking the dogs face/ head. Go for its feet. The dog is only worried that it may not be able to get away. So if you can, turn those paws to jam.

I am sorry for your family member.

Very few dogs have a bad character a human is usually to blame and most dogs can be successfully rehabilitated.

It's not a breed thing, it's a human thing. The problem being a bite from a dog with jaws that can lock,or incur massive damage, is always more likely to be able to inflict more damage, than one that doesn't have that capability.

It's similar to a weapon. And it's the person with the weapon that's the problem, not the weapon itself.

yes and he’d deserve it if my lurcher attack’s another person or dog I’d expect my insurance to pay out and the dog to be put to sleep I’d not expect a bunch of grown ups to turn up at my house to seek further vengeance (maybe then I can get my pitchfork out against them )

How did you get to see the CCTV? Normally you have to apply for this sort of thing.....they don't just hand CCTV footage out willy nilly

Firstly I would say grow the fuck up and stop acting like a thug, someone has been hurt so do things the right way

My partner was bit while on his rounds, yes police were involved, yes the owners were interviewed and taken to court and yes the dog was destroyed, my partner was in hospital for 3 days, had to have plastic surgery to close the bite wound as the dogs teeth has ripped a large flap of skin off his arm, he was quite happy with the outcome and how it was dealt with.

Well there you have it... just let the authorities deal with it, you could visit the owner to batter them but you’ll end up with jail time no doubt or dead from them rightfully defending themselves on their property

Who, as they required plastic surgery is presumably still in hospital? And the police would already have a first account from the victim? And a copy of the CCTV? And potentislly statements/first accounts from other witnesses whose accounts may be far more beneficial than a statement the witness could provide.

So what did the police say when you chased them up?

just asked if we can arrange a copy of cctv and if we know of any witnesses so they can then assign it to an officer

They got bitten on Friday, had surgery late yesterday afternoon and are already home and out in the garden? Wow.

Well not in this case as it seems to be private CCTV but councils and businesses are not so free with CCTV. Even where I work we have to fill out forms for CCTV footage and explain exactly why we want it and how we will destroy if it after.

My partner was in hospital for 3 days and had to visit every day for a week after because of infections setting in, to be out after a day is some going

yes its vague as im not going into my familys personal details and im preocupied at the minute believe it or dont i dont really care kidda

I'm sorry but I simply do not believe that the police failed to attend an incident which left someone so seriously injured that they required plastic surgery nor that the person bitten was released a matter of hours after undergoing plastic surgery?

Are you confusing 'plastic surgery' with 'needed a dressing applied' or 'had a couple of stitches' because then the lack of police involvement and the brief hospitalisation makes sense.

There was a 9 year old boy killed by a dog in Looe afew weeks ago. The child had been left in the caravan on his own with a friends dog whilst the parents were in the next caravan. That child died alone he must have been petrified. Some parents just shouldn't be parents. God bless him. X

I couldn't

I could see it through that a dangerous one was put down, but I couldn't kill it myself

On B)

Chances are, the owner of the dog is probably distraught / mortified

I'm not sure that a good pasting would hurt him or her

The thought that they are likely to lose their beloved pet through a moment of madness is likely to be punishment enough

It would not be easy however

Far from it

As I said, the owner (assuming they have any sort of conscience and humanity) will be suffering enough

Based on this thread.....odd conclusion to make.

Don't think anyone has said they obey the law 100% they've just said they'd let the police do their job and wouldn't condone violence or someone killing a dog out of spite.

Ok, if the dog has a history of nastiness then I'd probably be losing my shit, big time.

I got bit by a dog when I worked in a grooming parlour. I'd seen the dog many times and he loved me, it was always me that groomed him and he would give me stand up hugs (standard poodle)

One day same as any other, nothing different, I did the same as always and he proper went for me, not just a nip but attack mode. Obviously I was shocked and shaken up. Luckily no major injury.

He was put to sleep within 2 weeks... he had a brain tumour.

Sometimes it happens. The dog hasn't been dangerous and isn't evil. The owners are caring and responsible. Sometimes it really is nobody's fault.

Going off on one, demanding blood will help nobody. Waiting for the facts, the circumstances and understanding that sometimes shit happens and yes, it is unfair will serve you far better.
