The science of sexual fantasy

My poolside reading and podcast listening is Dr Justin Lehmiller. Some of his latest work is centred around sexual fantasy.

His survey of. 4100 Americans revealed that while we all fantasise for different reasons and in different ways he found that men and women show different levels of detail.

Women seem more particular about the setting and location of the fantasy rather than the person or people. Where as he found men were more particular about the people.

This intrigued me because on here to me women are often more particular about the people than men are.

So my question is when it comes to fantasy what is the key for you. The people/person or the setting

So basicsly women are shallow materialists while men are about the person and connection?

Location and setting down to the minutest detail. The people are shadowy figures.

I don't tend to fantasize unless I have someone in mind so I guess it's the most important part.

I tend to focus more on how things would feel or their scent or noises they'd make than the mechanics of it all.

The fantasy would always be around someone I knew, rather than a fictional character or someone I'd not met. So yes more attention would be to detail of place and circumstance as that would be the fantasy part, rather than the person.

This for me too, it's more about my senses and sensations than anything else.

I think it would be interesting to know the social status of these people involved in the study. If they were all married then the person would be a given for most of those ladies involved, whereas for the guys it might point to fantasising about other people other than their partner.

The personal circumstances here will make a massive difference to the relevance of the results.
