For me it seems like this since the entry into Afghanistan after 9/11. A friend of mine said for him it was the Falklands War as he thought we had put war behind us in this modern era.

Can you hang your hat on a surety in this era?

The surety of war?

Iirc since the end of ww2 there has only been one year where a british soldier has not died in the line of duty

If that's the case it would be a damning indictment of the policy makers.
