Have a couple of days in Edinburgh later this month

Staying just outside the city

Give me some (non-touristy) things to see & do - nice cafes, little bars, pretty parks, walks with _iews

N.B. this isn't a 'meet me' thread - if anything, I need some 'me time' at the minute

Just looking forward to escaping and doing chilled out stuff x

I really hope some locals are helpful for you and give you some valuable information on things to do. Me time is super important.

We will be doing a similar thread when we head to Glasgow next month.

Have a lovely break x vixen x

The Village (wherever that is)

Twas cheap (for Edinburgh) has a gym, pool and free parking

I'm comfy with public transport for getting around

Arthur's Seat. Country park and climb to the top of what's an extinct volcano. Green open spaces quiet paths not many people.

For something more adventurous wander out into the Pentland hills. Stunning open hills about 10 mile out of Edinburgh.

Mussleborough if you fancy wandering around an old village.

If your in the city, National Gallery, a place to get lost in art and history, The Castle and Royal Mile but expect it to be busy, it always is.

It's nice there.

I was just thinking if you want to avoid tourist things then stay out of the city centre. There are some great places like the museum or gardens but it's really hit or miss as to how busy they will be.

From where you are you could head down to Crammond or South Queensferry and take a wander along the sea front. South Queensferry has some nice wee shops and pubs etc and you get a great _iew of the bridges.

You could go the other way and head down to Newhaven or Leith although going a bit further takes you to Portobello which is lovely on a sunny day and also has the wee shops and pubs and things.

Another nice thing is the canal. You'd need to head up to Tollcross but it's easy by bus, you can go on a boat although I think you need to book in advance.

Talking of boats you can go out inchcolm island from South Queensferry. It's an old monetary and apart from the overly aggressive seagulls is pretty cool to explore.

Thanks folks

I've been 3 or 4 times into the city, so I've ticked off most of the things that draw people into the centre

Looks like a night on google ahead, reading up on your recommendations
