A man with extreme bouts of deviancy and sadism tis true. A twisted individual there is no doubt. But also Sadian thought have contributed to the works of other great thinkers such as Nietzche and Flaubert. Shining a light on essentially core aspects of human experience and acknowledge the cruelty that lives within. Rousseau and Voltaire where seen as famous iconoclasts that destroyed conventional thought in the era but some argue Sade also contributed to this act of the 'destruction of God' in the peoples eyes.

Do I agree with his writings in their entirety? Absolutely fucking not. 120 Days Of Sodom was a vile piece of work in many ways but the fact remains that he denounced the imposed Christian values of the time and was an extensive nihilist. A product of the era De Sade was more transparent with activities that where happening behind the scenes as it where in the nobility of the time and was extremely open about his proclivites. Some of his writings are even proto feminist, Juliette, placing women in a position of dominance.

Was the man evil? Quite certainly. But the intellect was still there. Influencing more of the modern contemporary thinking than people care to acknowledge, in my opinion.

Probably unlikely to be mentioned but Dag Hammarskjöld was a very wise man.

Swedish economist, diplomat and writer who was the second Secretary General of the UN. Reputedly the best overseeing critical interventions after the Korean War, Suez and Congo Crises. At 47 he still is the youngest person to hold that post.

His wisdom is often quoted....

Never measure the height of a mountain until you have reached the top. Then you will see how low it was.

The longest journey is the journey inward.

Never look down to test the ground before taking your next step; only those who keep their eyes fixed on the far horizon will find the right road.

Wisdom.. it's a strange word isn't it. There are lots of very clever and manipulative people around, but I wouldn't say that's wisdom.

I'd say wisdom comes from making bad decisions you thought were good decisions, witnessing the fallout.

Provided a lesson is learnt, a relatively young and unsuccesful person can accrue a lot of life lessons in one foul SMACK of fates fist.

The oldest tend to be the wisest, as they've had the time to make more mistakes than anyone else. Half a centuries worth of silly decisions has it's effect on those prepared to listen.

Travelling, talking and treating with new people from all walks of life opens pathways to new perceptions. The more perceptions you are aware of, the more answers you can unlock.

A level of curiosity so intense that you're prepared to take calculated risks to unravel the hidden secrets of your own universe will also teach you a thing or three.

Anyone can be wise, especially if you're a bit of a fuck up.

You can be younger and wiser if you fuck up a lot when you’re younger and throw yourself into experiences but learn learn the lessons well. Some experiences are such that they can transform our perspective and we change the logic that guides our actions. That for me is the process of becoming wiser.

"Wisdom.. it's a strange word isn't it.

That for me is the process of becoming wiser."

I'm sure I said that in about the 2nd paragraph So wise
