"I had a very similar thing with the building society after my wife died. I went to have her name taken off the mortgage documents. So went to the local office with the death certificate, only to be told that to take her name off the mortgage they needed her signature on the appropriative forms. This even went up to the branch manager who was no help at all. It was only resolved when I contacted there head office " Probably a good example there fo the tyranny of old school management consultants. I did some work for a major financial servcies company. They'd employed McFuckwit, a well known management consultancy, to do some work on saving money in their branches. They identified probate work as being an area where you could group all the probate work in one central office, and save money on staffing in the branches. Good news and extra dividends all round. Unfortunately, what it meant was that everytime a customer went into a branch with probate details, staff didn't know what to do. Neither would the branch manager, not least because once they'd centralized customer services all the branch managers were sales oriented and knew fuck all about processes. SO McFuckwits were called in again, and advised the bank they needed to spend a fortune on advertisng material and leaflets for the branches explaining how the service was delivered centrally. it didn't work because the probate leaflets were buried under all the sales leaflets. SO a new management consultant was brought in, who recommended training branch staff to do some probate work before sending the papers up tot he central probate department. F*** genius.... | |||
