"I don't eat a great deal contrary to belief. I do enjoy a drink though. I've cut out beer and I have noticed a reduction in swelling around the 'ned kelly' area. " Weight gain is caused by consuming more than you expend. The amount of food or drink is less relevant than calorie density.

"Has anyone got any good tips for weight loss and sustainable weight balance? I've kind of done my own take on a diet and lost 5.5 lbs In a week. " More exercise is probably the most effective thnig you can do as it will burn the calories off and combine it with weighing your food and just eating a little less. Good luck with it

The problem I had was that I couldn't see it happening.

Good luck with it thank you, I'm really trying to be positive and change my mind set. Changes in my approach to eating and alcohol are starting to change but it's bloody tough when you've been like it for so long. "

"Don't diet, make lifestyle changes P" This. ^ Walk a bit more if you can. Something like a Fitbit is a great motivator. Weigh food out. Not necessarily everything, but carbs especially, so rice, pasta, potatoes. Maybe use something like MyFitnessPal to me a food diary. It’s pretty easy once you get familiar with it, as you just scan in the bar codes of things with your phone’s camera. Once you see a bit of weight come off and a downward trend on the graphs, that becomes a great motivator too.

"Rapid weight loss without medical supervision is a bad idea for a number of reasons, including the likelihood of regaining the weight. I put on a stack of weight due to a medication I was on. It made me ravenously hungry no matter what I ate. It's depressing! But one foot in front of the other, upping my exercise and working on my diet, I've lost about half of it. " well done you, that's fantastic.

I had to stop submitting my training as mfp wouldn't accept it, saying that my calorie intake was to low.

"I'm not really the one to give diet tips. But what I can try and advise you on. Is to make a sensible goal plan and stick to it. Be dedicated to it. Do you have a gym buddy/PT to help you achieve your goals." I don't have a gb at the moment. I find it difficult to get to the gym regularly due to work patterns and seeing my daughter. I will try to get there more, definitely as I'm getting more motivated.

"Go look at advice on calorie intake and sensible deficits. Losing more than 1% of your weight in a week is generally regarded as extreme. Last month I lost a bit over half a stone (not including muscle mass gain) and was told to slow my roll. " I have actually had a text from my doctors surgery inviting me for an mot. I'll get some advice of of him hopefully. 1/2 a stone in a month? That in my eyes is fantastic, but I'm not a medical specialist.

"Don't lose it too quick... Give your body time to get used to it... Other words it can cause problems like clicking hip syndrome because you've not given your waste time to adjust to it being smaller ..... Also cut anything starchy out your died... I've cut potatoes out of mine completely bar the odd one or two spicy crisps I enjoy as a treat ... Without much exercise I've went from 23 stone to 16.9 in the space of 6 years. . I could lose more easily if I exercised ... Just I don't have the money to join up and go to gym all the time. " well done to you. The only thing I'm having carbs wise is pasta and more so wholemeal pasta.

"I'm not now. I would say that I'm not consuming half of that, and I do cycle to work. I am drinking a great deal of water at the moment. " If thats the case just keep doing what your doing till you plateau and weight is stable and then reduce again accordingly untill you are were you want to be. I wouldn't freak out too much about all the "omg dont lose weight too fast!" Stuff as it will slow down as your bmr and intake balance out as your size reduces

"A combination of some exercise and good diet. If you like beer try and avoid a lot of these new craft or ipa beers as they’re loaded with sugar" All alcohol is converted to sugar when it hits your liver.. Also remember it's not just how much you eat but what you eat. All i can suggest is make sure you are eating as clean as possible. Find healthy snacks you can enjoy. Make sure your meals are balanced, lots of veg and clean protein, lower carbs. The info is out there.

"80% of successful weight loss happens in the kitchen... I basically eat and drink whatever the hell I like but NEVER more than 1600 calories a day... Today I’m sitting at 450kcals and intend to have a takeaway later " I thought you were going to say 450 cals for the whole day lol

So half a stone is probably about the most you’d expect to healthily lose in a month. Although it can maybe come off s bit faster at the start, but then settle down a bit. I had gradually put on weight, and when I started to really try to get it back down with FB/MFP, I lost about 30lbs in about five months. Once I got into it, keeping my food diary and trying to get my 10k steps most days, I was losing about 1.5lbs a week like clockwork.

"I had half an eye on a programme about weight loss and obesity last night. The guy said that on average people eat 12 takeaways a month . We don't eat 12 a year! Aside from anything else how do people afford 12 a month?" 12 take awaws a month!!!! I can afford it but wouldn't want to have that many, so there's a start!
