"Out of interest, for anyone unfortunate enough to ever suffer with this, did you also experience any unusual visual phenomena? " No I didn't. But thankfully it only lasted a few minutes.

"Out of interest, for anyone unfortunate enough to ever suffer with this, did you also experience any unusual visual phenomena? " Yep, I had a cupboard in my bedroom and when it happened I would focus on that, and it always looked like it was getting smaller and smaller

"Out of interest, for anyone unfortunate enough to ever suffer with this, did you also experience any unusual visual phenomena? " I dreamt i felt my cat padding along my bed, then she jumped on my face only lasted about 15 seconds

"Out of interest, for anyone unfortunate enough to ever suffer with this, did you also experience any unusual visual phenomena? No I didn't. But thankfully it only lasted a few minutes. " It is speculated that the Greek mythological beings known as the Asphyx (and indeed some stories relating to vampires) were derived from people’s misunderstanding of the sleep paralysis experience; The apparent ‘pressure’ upon the chest and subsequent difficulties in breathing (as are often reported by sufferers) were interpreted as ‘demonic’ assaults

"It's a regular occurrence for me. Never gets any less terrifying. I find a little sound in the background helps a lot. If i sleep in quiet darkness, it triggers my episodes. " LJ sleeps in quiet darkness usually, but for me, he does accept something in the background, thankfully

"Anyone ever had an episode?" Couple of times. Not fun.

"Out of interest, for anyone unfortunate enough to ever suffer with this, did you also experience any unusual visual phenomena? Yep, I had a cupboard in my bedroom and when it happened I would focus on that, and it always looked like it was getting smaller and smaller " Now that is a decidedly startling perceptual distortion. From what I have read, alterations in the visual perception of the space around the sufferer are quite common phenomena associated with the experience.....as are the somewhat unsettling (and often terrifying) experiences of perceiving a ‘presence’ or else (thankfully, less commonly) ‘seeing’ vague, shadowy figures....

"Out of interest, for anyone unfortunate enough to ever suffer with this, did you also experience any unusual visual phenomena? " Always someone trying to rip me out of my body. No matter how hard I try to move, the parylisis prevents me from doing so. It feels painful, but not the conventional type of painful. It's difficult to explain H

But it's not a good feeling. It contributed to years of insomnia, because i was terrified to go to sleep. As I've gotten older, it's more apprehension and the hope i dont get it.

"I’ve never had that but used to suffer from night terrors really bad for about ten years, it was horrendous, I almost died once by falling down the stairs and narrowly missed cutting my throat open, it was like being stuck in a nightmare on elm street film. Since I’ve been with Doughnut I rarely get them and if I do they are no where near as bad, before with my ex husband it was really bad, almost every night. " That sounds horrific! I don't sleep well but thankfully nothing like that.

"I have it more when I have been stressed for a long period of time. Always terrifying and takes time for me to come to terms, then I just remember the line from Kill Bill “wiggle your big toe” and concentrate on that until I can wiggle it and then to my foot and try and get my leg to fall out the bed. Hate that feeling " Mines to sit up then i wake up with a large bellowing roar terrifying anyone in the bed or house depending where i am

"Out of interest, for anyone unfortunate enough to ever suffer with this, did you also experience any unusual visual phenomena? " I have, though due to being unable to move had only seen legs, and on a few occasions a dangling axe. Before I’d see this, I’d hear them climbing the stairs, and be frozen stiff. I’ve never had the old succubus on my chest: which would be preferable to those I do have. I am unfortunately a frequent sufferer and have been since childhood.

What usually happens is that I fall back asleep (no idea how this is possible). It’s a scary experience, of death is the cousin of sleep:- I take it that I’m destined for hell.

Sometimes I would see things like snakes coming in the window etc, other times I would ‘wake’ and be as nice as pie to my ex and others I would scream abuse at him, the worst one was when I thought he was thin to kill me with a knife (I since realised he was trying to calm me down) which is how I ended up with blood pouring out my jaw. There was a funny one once, I managed to convince him the ceiling was caving in and we ran down stairs stark naked (leaving our kids upstairs!) he opened the door and I zipped up a jacket and we both woke up before we reached outside lol x
