Quickest and easiest way to paint a fence without making a complete mess? Just wood paint and a brush or anyone tried spraying them? Any tips please?

My neighbour tried a spray gun. My fucking windows got COVERED in tiny paint spots. The cu*t!!

If you choose spraying, be careful and considerate!

Brushing takes a while but should make less mess.

Never tried spraying, though that would probably work really well if you could remove the fence panel and paint it somewhere 'safe'.

Like on a lawn or big tarp

Use a jumbo sponge as it gets into all the nooks and crannies. You'll be amazed how quick you can paint with minimal mess. Just wear gloves though and you'll be sorted

Spray is awful, makes a right mess and doesn't really last.

Brush is the only way and you get a good finish.

Took me 2 days last year to do 30m both sides with 2 coats. Looks good though.

Saw that gardening makeover programme with whatshername from years ago and 2 young Male designers . Anyway, this guy had a spray gun thing and did huge lengths of fences in literally minutes. Never seen anything like it.

Yeah I was hoping that would be the case but I have a feeling it’s not easy and it’s messy to do it that way.

Ex professional, now retired painter decorator here.

First make sure you've got the loose stain and green stuff off. Then using a sprayer and the correct sprays ble stain. Spray it hand pumped sprayers are available from many outlets from abou£15 ( name available on request.) And look out for deals on the stain itself and the trick is to keep the pressure up! More advice on request directly. On a decent weather drying day you should do any size fence in a day easily!

Best of luck!

Have a barbecue and get your friends to bring brushes. Food served on breaks or just when finished.

No quick way to do the job cleanly and quickly.

Keep plenty of paint on the brush. Up and down stroke's with the grain.

Just leave it, aged bare wood looks great, it will probably rot 1 year earlier than a painted fence, then you replace it with pre painted panels.

Cheap spray gun works perfect for wood treatments, for actual paint though it may be more hassle
