Good idea or not?

A group of independent traders in Bristol are launching their own currency, with the backing of the council and a credit union.

The "Bristol Pound" will be printed in notes, and also traded electronically.

There are other local currencies in the UK, but this is the first which can be used to pay local business taxes.

Torquay

We have had the 'Totnes Pound' down this way for years....it's more of a tourist thing than anything practical.

What is becoming big down this way is old fashioned bartering....as the recession bites it's becoming more and more common.

The EU do it all the time with their micky mouse Euro!

It's a novel idea but with GB Sterling it seems a lot of extra effort.

The trouble i find with printing my own money is that the ink cartridges for my printer are so bloody expensive - makes the whole excercise non profitable!

If only it was just the cost of the ink. Have you tried printing 50p coins... they don't work in the parking meters no matter how carefully you cut them out.

Try using a sheet of tin foil instead of paper - works every time for me!
