Should the retirement age be lowered for men

So, on average in the uk make life expectancy is 3 years less than womens.

Should the retirement age be modified so that men retire and get thier state pension 3 years ealier than women to account for this gender disparity?

Retirement ages have to be the same sex these days. Imagine if ours was 65 and women's was 60. It wouldn't take a rocket science for a man to self identify as female on his 60th birthday to retire early would it....?

Yes if your job is physically challenging and wears out your knees and back.

No if you push paper.

Maybe. I think men have an equal right to struggle on a state pension for the same length of time as a woman.

The retirement age should be reduced to 60 for all, then we should have 5 years of enjoyment before being either cut up for body parts or cat food.

It’s the only way we’ll fix the pensions, healthcare and housing crisis

It will make no difference as eventually the state pension won’t exist. Everyone needs to find their own retirement provision from a young age.

I’ll have some of my mums as she only got one year of state pension. Swings and roundabouts.

For as long as I can remember, state pension has been predicted to disappear. It won’t happen as whichever party did it would never get in power again.

It doesn’t really matter because most people will have to continue to work in some capacity to make ends meet. Unless they planned carefully when they were younger of course.

We retired five years ago. I won't receive my state pension until six years after I originally expected to. I think that redresses the balance slightly. I hope I live three years longer than my dad he's 92.

see... as someone who's job it is dealing with state pension forecasting and future pension forecasting i find this statement (and i hear it alot) frustrating .... because there are lots of things going on in the background....

most people in the future will have at least two pension pots... one being the state pension, the other being a workplace pension (relevant at this time because as of today these personal workplace pension contributions are going up, and employers contributions are also going up).. and if you still have a private pension on top of that... then brilliant!

i'd absolutely encourage everyone to get a state pension forecast, they are free and at least you can nip any potential issues in the bud early....... (enough bigging up my dept!!!)

I think the shorter lifespan for men could even out so it’s the same as women or even longer, men don’t do hard manual work like they did in previous years and many women do the same jobs as men now

Plus many women are single parents so will have the additional stresses that brings, many years ago a woman worked till they got married then no work life or very short hours, times have changed so much since then.

In future years lifespans could be less due to our unhealthy modern lifestyles too.

No since 'average' doesn't take into account any context and would be a bad statistic as far as equality is concerned, it's what spawned myths like the wage gap.

Cutting your balls off increases lifespan by an average of 7 years, doesn't mean it's a good idea

Well you'd still be able to have sex, you'd just have no swimmers.

You'd also not go bald, massively reduce your risk of cancer, and reduce your risk of erectile disfunction.

Aside from the whole not having your balls thing, it's actually a reasonably healthy lifestyle choice

There’s numerous genetic factors that predispose people to atherosclerosis. Testosterone is actually cardio protective if you look at the research
