Jeez man, the way things are going too when your mortgage is paid off you'll likely still have a couple years to go before official retirement age. I'm near 40, by time I get there it'll probably have been put back to 75 fs!

Certainly give up building if your body hurts that much. I went from industry to heavy manual work at 46. Ouchh. Take a year out at least (not sure what to suggest about your mortgage) . You deserve it.

I feel the same way.

I'm over it!

It's not about finding something I want to do - I quite honestly don't want to do any of it.

My dream job would be something part time

20hrs a week or less.

I spent a lot of years travelling so I haven't been at it day in and day out since I was 16 - but it's been long enough!

My body is starting to hurt too and I'm getting grumpier by the day

The only way out is a lottery win!

I’ve been in the building trade since I was 19. Ideally id be working 3 days a week now and spending my days off in a VW camper travelling around Europe. Work sucks, but the other option is packing it in and living off grid.

You just have to make the most of the time you have away from work.

Keep life simple and enjoy the little things.

With interest rates low at the moment , maybe look into refinancing your mortgage and maybe getting a better deal. If you can afford it , try and pay a bit more into it and maybe that will help knock a year or two off the end term.

I know the feeling I want to slow down and semi retire but life is hard.

Keep positive and smile , try to find good things in your day and enjoy time with your lovely wife.

This song says it all... I live by it...

https://youtu.be/acYf26rq9PY

For those of you who can't be arsed to watch...

Papa Roach - Between Angels and Insects

There's no money, there's no possessions

Only obsession, I don't need that shit

Take my money, take my obsession

I just want to be heard, loud and clear are my words

Coming from within man tell them what you heard

It's about a revolution, in your heart and in your mind

'Til you find a conclusion, lost out in obsession

Diamond rings get you nothing but a life-long lesson

And your pocketbooks stressing

You're a slave to the system, working jobs that you hate for that shit you don't need

It's too bad the world is based on greed

Step back and see

Stop thinking about yourself, start thinking about?

There's no money, there's no possession

Only obsession, I don't need that shit

Take my money, take my possession, take my obsession

I don't need that shit

Because everything is nothing

And emptiness isn't everything

This reality is really just a fucked up dream

With the flesh and the blood that you call your soul

Flip it inside out, it's a big black hole

Take your money burn it up like an asteroid

Possession, though you're never gonna feel the void

Take it away and learn your best lesson

The heart, the soul, the life, the passion

There's no money, there's no possession

Only obsession, I don't need that shit

Take my money, take my possession, take my obsession

I don't need that shit

Money, possession, obsession

Present yourself, press your clothes, comb your hair

And clock in

You just can't win, just can't win

And the things you own, own you

No!

Take my money, take my possession, take my obsession

I don't need that shit

Fuck your money, fuck your possession

Fuck your obsession, I don't need that shit

Money, possession, obsession, I don't need that shit

Its simple most of you have been sucked into the system of spending way more than you need to and living beyond your means, a drastic life style change is needed but its beyond the will power of most to achieve, yes its far easier to sit back and carry on.You don't need to drink ten pints of lager on a night out nor spend two or three quid on a cup of coffee or a sandwich, you can boil a kettle and take a flask and a tea bag with you make your own sandwich for a few pence at home. Sit down and write a list of exactly what you are spending there will be hundreds of pounds you can save and do it now, save a few quid over the next few weeks then when the brexit shit brings stock markets to an all time low buy a stock and shares ISA with what you have saved, in ten years time that little nest egg will be your saviour.

It doesn’t matter if the world has gone mad

If we just hold on, if we just hold on yeah

The sky is falling and the world has gone mad

And we sing our songs, and we just hold on yeah

So if you’re running, stop running

One life, one chance, start living

Sing it louder just to let the world know

No we’re not nameless, we’re not faceless

We were born for greatness

The happiest (and probably healthiest) guy I know has been living off grid for years.

He’s nearly 70, but looks about 45 and is super fit/super-chilled.

He’s pretty much lived on his own terms for 30+ years and relies on his skills and ingenuity to get by.

There’s lots of folks hiding out in the wilds of Wales doing the same.

I became semi-retired at 55, working a 3 day week; I took a £20k pay cut to do this but I wasn't enjoying life so it was worth that for my happiness.

Didn't quite workout as planned; my worked failed to employ someone to do the 2 days worth of work that i no longer was doing (as agreed by management) so I ended up doing overtime to keep my head above water (cramming 4 days into 3). Someone starts next week so hopefully things will change. Despite doing the extra work, I'm happier (although poorer) and far, far more content).

Redundancy hit hard, very hard in fact to the point of despair a few years ago.........but it forced us to reassess priorities, and sort out our finances, ....... OK, so we had always saved hard for that rainy day, that's how we were brought up. On reflection, things turned out ok, well so far at least.......yes our lifestyle is different, but infinitely happier without work.

I know it saves a fortune being frugal - and I used to live like it to save for travel.

But now I'm trapped here I like sitting in coffee shops and eating in restaurants and buying myself stuff I want ( within reason )

I find taking flasks of coffee and home made sandwiches out with me depressing.

I work to have the stuff I want.

I do my bit to economise, I have a bicycle instead of a car, I live in cheapish accomodation and I don't spend on ridiculous phone / sky packages etc ..

But life is too short to hoard it for when you're too old to live your life!
