Just had notification from my Insurers:

If you are planning to drive in the EU, Andorra, Serbia, or Switzerland in the near future then you'll need to request a Green Card.

This can only be a hard copy and must be carried with you.

This is irrespective of the outcome in the weeks to come.

It's free but you need to apply for it and I'd say there may be a bit of a back log with the summer approaching.

No need to add any cover as your current one would still cover you if you have EU coverage.

For NI to southern venturing I've yet to ask if there is a special agreement being put in place.

1 simple answer to a lot of earlier speculations and uncertainties. May the simple solutions continue.

"What about if you hire a car while on holiday in the EU? "

You MAY need an international license it says but that's not confirmed yet. There may be a concession on this based on the past years it's been accepted but will need to wait.

They have said apply for your green card at least 4 weeks in advance to travel.

Newcastle and travel/hotel

We go away in 2 weeks to an EU country for a week - hopefully I'll be given an excuse to stop away longer.

You may need to check if your EHIC card is still valid. This may be different in each country you pass through too.

Each country is different and some have stated a lot depends on what Britain does, it visas etc.

Whatever happens there will still be free movement between the north and south of Ireland under the GFA Common Travel Area.

Ashford and dept16

We are driving through france international lic 1969 £5.50 from post office took 5 mins and our insurer LV took 5 days to add and send the green card for our insurance free of charge and lasts the life of the cover carries over onto new policy if they retain cover of course. It would be advisable to obtain a international license for the country you intend to hire a car in to assist the process what's a £5.00 in the cost of a holiday?
