Seen as all tattooists seem to have different aftercare advice and Google is a minefield of info on the right way or wrong way to look after your precious new artwork, I thought I'd throw it out to the great inked of Fab for hints, tips and hacks on tattoo healing. What's your regime??

I keep mine covered for 24 hours afterwards then wash with emollient then add very small amounts of bepanthum every day.

Dry healed all mine....itched like crazy but all seem in good condition.

My artist recommends cocoa butter

Anything natural, most tattoo balms, i personally have always uncovered mine soon as i get home and washed in an unperfumed soap to remove all the blood and plasma, dry gently then a thin covering of balm.

Everyone will tell you something different tho, lots of gimmicky stories around so beware

Used to use bepanthen but my current tattooist says savalon. New tattoos I wash with warm soapy water 3 times a day then small amount of savalon.

We have always washed with warm soapy water and applied Savlon for first 2 days. Then applied very thin layer of vasaline, not to much or skin can't breath, until all scabs have gone. Moisturiser after that to stop the itch. Always worked for us

No bepanthen.. I use good old germolene for a day as it has numbing stuff in it.. then it's Coco butter all the way..

I have done a couple of common methods.

Keeping wraps on for couple of days but obviously washing couple of times a day and changing the wraps. Used bepanthen couple of days under wraps then normal moisturiser.

Also done the other method of keeping wrap on for couple of hours then exposing to air going forward, letting it dry out. No bepanthen just normal moisturiser after 24 hours.

I was sceptical of second method but both were fine and healed fine.

I use antibiotic soap to wash them first week or so. I hight recommend Norwegian formula body moisturiser you can get in Boots etc, the sensitive version, to use on your tattoos. Heals beautifully with it and for your body generally going forward.

I used tattoo goo supplied by my tattooist and it relieved the itching and loreal do a tattoo revived cream for all your already healed tattoos and that's pretty good for bringing the colour back

I use child's farm nappy cream or baby moisturiser for mine. Stop the itching and hydrates really well. No perfumes ect in it

Had mine covered for 24 hours first. Then was gently washing it 3 times a day with baby soap and applying Bepanthen after drying the area (only pat to dry, don't rub). After a week reduced washing and Bepanthen to 2 times a day. Not had a single scab or any itchiness. The skin didn't peel off either.

Keep it clean and well moisturised.

My artist has a specific brand of aftercare balm that he sells, but last time I went he said aqueous cream is just as good (and way cheaper). I paid £3 for an enormous tub of aqueous cream rather than £5 for a small pot of aftercare that barely does the 2 weeks aftercare for one tattoo

I don't use Bepanthon anymore, they changed the formula, and it doesn't work very well.

But I uncover as soon as I get home, wash in a neutral soap, then use Palmers Cocoa Butter.

A friend of mine swears by Acriflex, a burn cream. To be fair his tats are awesome colour work.

Make sure your tattooist is well recommended and make sure you see some of their art work before committing.

I unwrap mine when I get home and wash it in the shower and then just let it heal naturally. I've listened to whatever advice has been fashionable at the time everytime I've had a tattoo over the last 20 years, the advice has varied and even contradicted itself over the years but they've all healed fine

Raw coconut oil twice a day for about a week, then just leave it. I don't wrap it again after the initial few hours.

the reason the advice from artists will differ is because there isn't really a right or wrong answer, and it can depend on location. Just let it breathe and use ointment 1-2 times a day and you'll be fine

Hiding in the shadows

Unwrap mine as soon as I'm home, wash using zero gel.

Aloe Vera gel, every couple of hours for first 2 days. Then often as possible after that.

My large work, was fully healed in a week.

Small line tattoes a couple of days

Camberley occasionally doncaster

I unwrap mine the morning after, rinse well and wash with gentle soap. I just use a natural moisturiser high in cocoa..

I avoid bepanthen. Too claggy and ruins clothing..

The newest info I was given was to leave it to dry out for a couple of days. Clean and pat dry. Then use a cream, I got tattoo goo.

Bepanthum has changed its ingredients so isn't any good.

I'd just go with want your tattoo artist advises and if you have any bits that touching up at least you can say you followed their advise x
