What makes a strong culture?

I watched an interesting program about it, where they compared the west and islam also asia and what they come to a conclusion was that religion is what makes a culture strong, they have both religion and religion as politics, where west have somewhat lost their christianity and pride, whats your view is it religion?

What did the Programme define as being "strong" and "pride"?

I don't think religion causes conflict, I think it's used as a tool to rally the masses, galvanize them to a politician/leaders cause. On the whole.

I wouldn't say that the Japanese culture, which let's face it has been pretty successful in modern times, is driven by religion. That is based upon honour and integrity, a desire to portray your family and heritage in the greatest light. A desire to be the best you can be. If anything, it is religion that feeds off this deep set sense and then people confuse the honour being driven by religion rather than the other way round

My religion gives me strength as an individual not because of the people who share the same religion as me. My family and friends give me strength and some do not share the same religion as me or are even religious.

Yes, I agree, historically religion has the been the way this has been achieved.

We need to figure out a new mechanism, as belief in Sky Wizards is diminishing (even in those Asian countries where it is still strong).

Possible alternative for groups to hang their hats on environmentalism, a belief in the world and our duty to it could be a good glue for community...

We export our culture via music, art, film, television, internet all over the globe.

Whether a culture based on win-at-all-costs-free-market-capitalism is a culture worth having is another debate entirely.

Treat others how you would like to be treated

Honour your family and heritage

Even cults pretty much fall under those same doctrines (although some need a leap of faith (the irony of this phrase is not lost) to see how they fit)

Religion is the start of all civilisation and bonds culture and people together.

All the main Religions teach Peace yet it's the source of most problems in the world ?

Ignorance is not a religion but seems to be a popular belief which gives the 'mainstream media' the platform to generate storylines in turning public opinions whichever way it chooses.

Religion does not make a strong culture, however, religion can have a place in a strong culture. Culture is food, common belief system, common understanding between those in the culture. Culture is somewhat a cult.
