Good idea?

I wouldn't put my life in the 'hands?' Of a computer. Also where's the fun in not driving yourself?

I'd like it. I don't find driving fun anymore. It's a chore, and a stressful one at that.

I love driving. It's only when I'm stuck in traffic it becomes annoying. I just sing to people with my windows down lol.

If it’s a quiet, twisty road then driving is great.

If it’s commuting with idiots then it’s dull or stressful, I’d quite happily have a computer deal with that shit for me

We worry and many refuse to travel in them wonder how many think of this when they are flying. Planes have had autopilot and computer landing systems for years...the computer systems can react far quicker than a person ever can just needs more testing and designing but already nearly there as can be seen time and time again...

It's a shame they're testing them with real life people on board... The Boeing 737 for example!! Very sad!

Can’t us chaps keep proper cars so restricting women to driverless? Huge improvement all round and we still get to turn up in our motor to take our bird out.

Sorted. Now for Brexit!

Understand what you're saying but you put your life in the hands of a computer of some sorts pretty much every time you walk out your front door.

What happens if the traffic lights that are on green at the cross roads that you're approaching at 70mph suddenly also change on the other side from red to green

Also where is all the traffic in the air and no one is going step out suddenly in front of a flying plane...

I don't fancy these at all, not because I fear putting my hands in that of a machine, but because I love driving so much. I just got my first drive in a ferrari there 5 minutes ago in work, had a computer been driving I wouldn't have enjoyed that the way I just did

Exactly... computers malfunction. What if the GPS satellite hits an astroid? It'll be chaos...

You need a computer to do your driving if you are approaching traffic lights at 70mph....anyway this is where cyclists may save us all, I read that they are so less predictable than cars & other vehicles that you can't really programme for them, so either accept cyclists (& pedestrians I suspect)deaths/injuries increasing or completely autonomous cars are off the menu, do not know how true this is.

Should we get people off the dole and employ a person with white gloves and fluorescent table tennis bats to stand on a box at every location that traffic lights were directing traffic

So they will detect all the other cars positions by using GPS etc. To make them 100% safe. They would have to track pedestrians and cycle users by using the same method.

"Terminator spings to mind"

Seems laughable when you say that mate... but it's getting like that.
