What was your first car, did you give it a name, was it a rust heap and unreliable but you loved it anyway or your pride and joy ?

As a follow up what was the first car you remember your parents owning ?

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

My first car was a beige (I know) Mini. I was supposed to learn to drive in it but my first boyfriend commandeered it and I only drove it twice.

I can't remember which was my Dad's first car in my liftime. I remember a big, curvy American(ish) thing with leather seats. Then there was something else and then I really remember the Cortina Mk2 (circa '72-76).

Mine was a 10 year old Fiesta that I barely fitted into. I called it the Crimson Deathtrap and I loved it, until the rear suspension went and would have cost twice the value of the car to fix.

My first car was a 1977 Vauxhall Viva. It was the top of the range GLS model with a vinyl roof and plush velour seats. I thought it was the dogs nuts. I was only 18 at the time....

Rover 220 turbo. I wanted something different from the SR Nova crowd.

It was my office my shag pad and social life all under one roof for a while.

Me and the Gf spent many an evening listening to music eating junk and fucking away.

It was a magnificent beast that cost me a fortune in fuel and repairs. Luckily I had a very understanding Dad who paid for the insurance.

1983 “Y” reg Austin Metro purchased for £200 in 1995 with a “years MOT” ) must have been dodgy.

Reversed in to a bollard after 2 weeks and because it was a metal bumper drove round the rest of the cars days with a massive dent in the bumper. Still was a cracking wee first car and never gave me any problems.

Not my first car but one of my favourites was a 1981 Fiat Super Mirafiori. God, that car was quick! Twin cam 2.0 engine, limited slip different, 5 speed gearbox. I was 21 and in the forces with more spare money than I knew what to do with. Swapped it for a 1981 SD1 Rover that was an ex police traffic car. Souped up 3.5 litre V8 in it. Went like a train and drank about as much fuel!

My first car was a BMW 318ti Sport (e36 generation) in Avus Blue metallic with full M-tec kit. Weirdly enough it cost me half as much to insure a sporty 1.9 RWD hot hatch as it would have done to insure the boring Mazda 3 1.5 that I was originally looking at as a sensible first car. I passed my test in it, at the ripe old age of 30!

I still own and adore my first car. I call her Phoebe.

Hubby bought her for me after I’d had half a dozen driving lessons. I failed my first test 20 years earlier and had given up. My car sitting on the drive waiting for me was the incentive not to quit this time around.

She’s an 02 plate, mk2.5 Phoenix edition mx5, black with red mohair hood.

Before I passed my test it was fun for hubby to meet me from work, tape on the L plates and drive her home. I would always get awesome comments from guys walking by who thought it was cool to be learning to drive in an mx5

These days I allow him to borrow her occasionally to go to work, normally on a Saturday. He enjoys a good top down spin at 3 am

Mine was a saloon Volvo, big chunky beast back in the day for a learner but my parents bought her for me instead of driving lessons, had her for a few years, she had a few names which I can’t remember now but I remember when I first past my test the next day I went on a huge journey with a friend and got lost down a road and reversed and I thought I just hit a curb, turns out I knocked a wall down (a little one) and the police found me it was all ok but my dad wasn’t happy as I was still on his insurance

I loved that car but I don’t ch oke, Also I only drive automatic cars as my dad convinced me I would never manage a manual (he also was convinced I wouldn’t get on driving in France but I can drive better over there than here!)

Danish x
