So I got stopped by the Police, and was given a ticket for no MOT on my car. It expired on 14/2/19. This happened on the 18th of March at 08.30. I took my car for test that afternoon and got an MOT pass ticket. I haven’t heard from them. Nothing has arrived through the post. I’ve been on the Internet and am confused. Have they got 14 days to issue a fine or have I got 14 days to pay a fine, should one arrive? Hopefully someone can interperete the rules for me. Thanks xxxx.

Hey... they basically have 14 days to send you a fine through the post... so all you gotta do now is wait till you receive that letter

P.O. Box DE1 0NQ

Not entirely sure of recent rules as I haven't had a vehicle on the roads for nearly 8 years now, but I'm pretty sure that any vehicle is not insured unless it has a valid MOT certificate?

I believe if you don’t get your fine without 14 days the fine becomes void ???

Not 100% sure though ,,,,

But how did you let the MOT go out of date , even if you loose your MOT certificate you can check on line ,

You can set up text alerts now as well I think, I'm sure I did that at when I presented my car for it's last MOT

You were probably given a ‘Traffic Offence Report’, which advises you that some sort of action will most likely be taken against you. Their copy goes to a civilianised department and the civilians will send you a non endorsable fixed penalty notice in due course. Depending on the backlog, it could take several weeks to hear. No MOT is a summary only offence, which must be dealt with within 6 months of the date of the offence.

I don't drive and the only thing that the mother does paperwork wise is for her vehicle. She found out this week that she had been driving it since October without it's mot!! Got it done - then wrote it off the next day
