Have you considered voluntary work?

I used to go to the library to job search online, it got me out the house. Have you registered on lots of job sites ? Are you on linked in? Networked your friends ? I hope you find something soon.

I am ok with all that stuff, i am in a niche job, so similar opportunities are not common. Its a weighting game

I’ve had to make over 200 people redundant in the last 3 weeks, it’s sucks massively,

I had my consultation today so I’m out too.

Keep positive, make your bed every morning, get dressed. Go for a walk, keep busy

Give it a go. It'll help your hairline. Having some voluntary work will look good on your CV. And a good cause gets some help.

Jesus, that's shitty making you do the layoffs then laying you off too.

On the making yout bed note theres a good speech by a us navy general (might have been seals not sure) and that was his main point.

Its one small action that sets you up for the day, to prepare you too succeed and achieve and if things go wrong, well at least youre comming home to a freshly made bed that night

Not very well I'm constantly in and out of work and apprenticeships ... It stresses the hell out of me because I cant enjoy a social life ..... Several years ago i was so close to topping myself but along came the niece's.... Gave me a reason to carry on.

Hi,

I was made redundant in 2013 after 23 years employment. I went the re-training route, however the volunteer route can be really rewarding too. It’s a personal decision, whatever works for you. Been doing short term contracts the last few years. Hopefully should be getting back into permanent roles soon. Having just finished juror service, getting something lined up for the new year.

Do voluntary work definitely that will get you back out than sitting in every day, all day. And job search inbweeen, hand your cv everywhere constantly, phone places up see if they're taking on. Ask friends if they know anywhere etc

Have you looked into agency work or self-employed?

I was last out of work 3 years ago, through I'll health. Still, it was a tough wake up call, even with my unemploynent experience up to then.

Good advice so far. Voluntary work gets you "brownie points" with Job Centres, as it shows you are doing something constructive.

Keep a job Diary, as Job Centres like that sort of attitude within you.

Some businesses are screaming out for staff these days, especially in Hotels & Hospitality. This is due to Brexit uncertainty.

OP, if you need any contacts in Hotels and Catering recruitment, contact me.

Sign up to recruitment websites such as Monster, as you can fine-tune your job requirements to type, area, and distance from home too.

Someone did suggest LinkedIn, but they're having software issues across their systems making them not as reliable as they should be, compared to rival sites.

I've done voluntary work, it shows your willing, and therefore you never know what opportunities might come from it. Certainly a good start, keep you occupied but if you find work, then you should be able to leave quite easily.

Don't let pride get in the way. I've had to do manual work in a factory and night shifts have killed me. However last week my qualifications counted and I was brought back to my factory as a consultant and helped them out of shit. Long story short, we played a long game, got my factory out of possible closure, brought in an alternate supplier and saved them, and they have the opportunity to expand. I've been approved as a supplier for Range Rover. No payment yet, but that will be next year.

The opportunity to do more training, it's an outlay, but an investment in yourself. Looked at the market, decided to close my company and restructure my work into staycation (my floating B&B) and the expanding market of mental health. So I've hopefully treated it as an opportunity and a refresh on my life.

I feel for you all I really do that sucks big time my advice if you’ve the time learn something new a trade to fall back on or just as a hobby to pass the time you never know it could open new doors for you

Go down the local schools churches or places like that get a crb check and help out with the young or the elderly they always need help or even just someone to talk to cost nothing but is worth more than gold to some
