Or a derogatory term given to a woman who is comfortable with her sexuality, so a threat to those who are not...in other words- juvenile...not the dictionary definition, but a woman fed up of this pathetic word being bandied about x

Really? It came up on every google search I put in.

It’s the connotation of the word that offends, it’s not really that difficult to grasp why. It’s like when men would be offended by being called a “puff” (apologies for the use of the word) because it was to negate their masculinity. Slag is used to make out a woman is morally less than another woman- ergo, offends x

It’s choice!! That’s all there is to know.

Slut and whore have kind of become owned by women themselves now, think alt/bdsm etc, whereas slag is a word that remains derogatory. Women don’t have to accept it, just because they accept other words x

Some offensive words are reclaimed by the targets of the group, like queer or the n word. Some aren't. Some are problematic (the n word being one of them) or partly reclaimed. It's generally best to leave them alone.

Slut and whore have been reclaimed, at least in part. Slag has not.

I think that all the females are being overtly offended. It is generally one, (usually a female) that will sleep with anyone, regardless of attraction, age, gender(or even desiring them). I’m sure that those taking offence here, make a decision based upon attraction (personality of course also )

Thus, the word does not apply. So, generally a lack of being able to simply say ‘no’.

No offence taken, just explaining to the OP who seems somewhat naively surprised that women are offended to be called something that is usually meant as an insult. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out but it seems that some are playing deliberately dumb.

"I think that all the females are being overtly offended.

If you knew me in personaly in reality, you wouldn't think that.

It's very easy to not be offended by a word that's never been hurled at you as abuse.

And I'm a woman, thank you. "

I hadn’t meant that you had no reason to take offence when it’s aimed at you. Though there’s no reason to take offence whilst discussing it. Surely if you personally don’t deem yourself to be one, why allow it to pierce you?

I’m against all name calling, I’m a ginger: my black friend once told me that he’d hate to be a ginger, due to the abuse. Which is funny to look back upon.

People are not having a go. You asked a question and people are answering. You are then questioning those answers, which in turn is making you seem overly naive or pretending to be.

Slag is the glass-like by-product left over after a desired metal has been separated from its raw ore. Slag is usually a mixture of metal oxides and silicon dioxide. However, slags can contain metal sulfides and elemental metals.

No one is having a go at you. Just taken aback by the nativity your claiming. Your lack of schooling does not mean that you wouldn’t have heard the word. If you left school to be in a male dominated environment, it’s been my experience from growing up around lads, that you’d have heard derogatory terms a lot more than a kid on the school ground. However, that’s generalisation, and maybe you were very sheltered etc. We won’t know.

The responses are based on this post, not on you personally, that’s nothing to do with anyone else.

Don’t take it to heart, no one is attacking you. You have answers from women why it’s a word that’s disliked by many, you’ve achieved your intention of the post x

Insecurity, childhood abuse, lack of a sense of worth, depression, need for risk.... there are of course a great many reasons for why someone would partake in such activities.

Though, due to the lack of reason for why someone would engage in such rash sexual escapades: they tend to be termed as a ‘slag’. (Not judging personally)

I generally dislike the word as much as most women do. I personally don’t look down upon anyone. Though, I’m aware such generalisations certainly do not help with whatever is going on within a person.

The underground definition of a Slag is this.

Some

Large

Ass

Gap

....it's originally a stateside term about her always open legs. Sounds good doesn't it? but it's not true I made it up and now you know where the new definition comes from! In truth most men don't mind a Slag (if she is attractive to them/or meets the occasion) but she can be detrimental to relationships or the longevity of! Oh yes and there are men who behave in the same way!!

"I have to ask this.. In what way am I being Naive?

asking the question oh and not knowing it's offensive and furthering the argument by questioning the criticism

It's just a question though.. I wanted people to give their definition and I do know it's offensive. "

My definition is a person, man or woman, who fucks around. I just see it as a word and not an insult.

Like Queer was reclaimed as a positive word. I reclaimed 'slag' as just a descriptive word.

Isn't slag just a word used by people who are jealous that a woman has a healthy appetite for sex and gets it regularly ?

"stony waste matter separated from metals during the smelting or refining of ore.

Or a derogatory term given to a woman who is comfortable with her sexuality, so a threat to those who are not...in other words- juvenile...not the dictionary definition, but a woman fed up of this pathetic word being bandied about x

Hiding in the shadows

"Usually it's the waste rock from coal and ore mining. Hope that helps."

This.

I'm originally from a mining town.

I could see the slag heaps from my bedroom window.

40yrs on they're all green & pretty.

I'm pretty cool with being called most names, but slag is not one of them.
