It's a bread roll or bap, tea cakes have currants in and there ars literally no such things as cobs, barm cakes, or stotties. These are made up fantastical objects, much like the flying carpets, holy grails and Saddam Husseins WMD's.

A tea cake is a spiced bread product containing dried fruit which is lovely toasted with butter.

barm is just plain wrong, otherwise it depends on context.

Bread roll if it's one you pull apart for soup, bread cake if it's from the chippy and meant to be stuffed with more food than you can eat, teacake if it's for a regular sandwich.

Roll or bap, if it's soft. Cob if it's crusty. Oh and Teacakes most definitely have currents in them.

Or the two sides of a buttered tea cake? finally common sence

Lol ya shit! Putting words into my mouth ask for a chip teacake in a chippy and they will look at you like you just shit on their floor "

I once went in the chippy at Childwall 5 ways and asked for a barm. The woman looked at me and said "ye wot?!" And looked at me like I had two heads. I said "a barm, you know.. bread" she said "nah, we don't do nuffink like dat! " they did fried pies though, wtf!

A barm cake is a bread roll leavened with barm. A tea cake seems to have no consistent definition apart from a cake you eat with tea.

Lol right.....Barm is the foaming scum off the top of a fermenting liquid. Its essential a yeast that you leaven in the bap as another ingredient. Without that leaven, that normal bread doesn't have, it's not a butty/sarnie. Some parts of the world it's a bap, roll and bun. Even some chippys are now referring to them as baps but on the whole, if you're with a scouse lady you have to accept Scousers call it 'chip barm', believe me aside from the 5ways one mentioned here I have been in enough of them to know lol to my detriment

Real question is can you accept a partner who calls it a barm? I know you can get past it lol

Vote is skewed as you're opening a regional name for a thing up to a national vote so it's going to go that way. Now conduct the vote in Liverpool where its referred to as a barm and it's totally different story lol

Lol location does. Liverpool is the only place its referred to as a barm. Rest of the country refer to it as other things. So if everyone in Liverpool said yes to barm, they would still be outnumbered by everybody in the rest of the country saying no lol it throws off the vote. Maybe there should be a Barm Line, when you get so far outside of Liverpool a, other areas Bap, becomes a Barm

No wonder we can't sort out fucking Brexit !

Just for the record...

baps are round, soft bread things for ham, cheese etc.

cobs are hard round bread things for the same thing. they're a bit crap and leave a right bloody mess!

burger buns are just that- look like a bap but have a burger inside and some sort of seed arrangement on top...never put a buger in a cob!

rolls are long and thin bread things you use for a hot dog (although ham, cheese etc is acceptable for cold stuff).

tea cakes (bread variety) have currents in them, you slice em in two and toast them...then add butter and maybe jam- they are not a savory item!!!

Barms, stotties, oven bottoms, brioche- all weird foreign rubbish

If anybody needs any further clarification, i'll be in Westminster sorting out that bloody mess Theresa Mayhem and the other incompetent fuckwitts have left us in!
