Would depend if it was just general chit chat or if the messaging was leading to meeting up.

The latter I would probably at some point drop them a line to ask if they’ve changed their mind.

We chat a bit then it goes quiet.

I have been guilty of forgetting to reply to a message though. I read it-meaning to reply when I have time to chat-then forget I didn't reply.

It's happened twice in relatively recent times. At first I wondered what turned them off after the initial messaging seemed so positive, and it was a bit frustrating when it's so difficult to get any interest here anyway, but it soon passed.

One message then leave them be. I’ve just had similar chatting to a guy on WhatsApp. Then it goes quiet. I will send one message saying “hi” or something equally banal. Then I will leave them to it. I don’t know him. He doesn’t know me. He owes me nothing.

On here if I was chatting with a view to meeting up and the chat stopped I'd assume the other person had changed their mind.

If it was general chat I'd think they were too busy, or were chatting to people they might actually want to meet.

When conversation becomes awkward even and you're just getting short, disinterested messages anymore, it's a sign to move on. Their attention is obviously elsewhere (not necessarily on another person), and it's only a matter of time before they ghost you. Well I'm glad I didn't take the advice to just leave her be. We have talked about why and we are past it now.

I think it depends on how much they mean to you. How well you got on etc. We got on really well instantly so it was hard not to hear from her. She did have a good reason and it's sorted now.
