London

Recommend a classic/retro film perfect for a Sunday afternoon curl up and watch...

Defining classic and retro for purposes of the thread simply as being a film not made within the last ten years.

Got to love an Ealing comedy. "School for Scoundrels" is my favourite.

Manchester (he/him)

Pretty much anything by John Hughes or most 80's kids films.

If you wanted to go a bit more retro maybe an Ealing comedy or a Laurel and Hardy collection?

If you're in the mood for something a bit darker, how about a Hitchcock film or a noir thriller?

All good; but state a specific film from each genre for people to try.

It’s too nice to be sitting indoors. I’m going to abstain and carry on digging my planters out.

After a nice cup of tea.

I’m gardening too! Just having a tea break. Wanted ideas for a rainy Sunday in the future.

As a kid in the 70s and 80s, when we only had at best 4 channels, a Sunday afternoon film was in Black and White, at least 30 years old and either a war film or cowboys and Indians, occasionally romantic film like Brief Encounter (another great film) would appear. Actors like John Wayne or classic British Jack Hawkins or John Mills, see Ice Cold in Alex.

Nice memories flooding back
