All I remember was Marilyn on TOTP. No lads around my way dressed like him. It was all mullets and dodgy taches.

I remember Boy George on TOTP, all of us trying to figure out if he was a boy or a girl...you’d think the ‘boy’ bit would’ve given us a clue

Marc Almond clad in leather on TOTP was my first big shock. Then came Boy George, then Marilyn and then Pete Burns. The press called them 'gender benders'. I fancied them, but as I say the look wasn't reflected by anyone I knew. I know quite a few now though!
