According to the results of a new study, people who drank milk were five times more likely to do well on memory tests than people who did not.

Milk is good for calcium women who are going through the menopause need it more to stop them getting brittle bone disease. If your nails are brittle, it means you need more calcium. I just found out i got diabetes and need to lose 3 stone so i am drinking alpro soya milk and no cheese or red meat.

Well it contains the same amount of calcium as normal milk, but not suitable for children who are under two. It tastes nicer than semi skinned milk. Will have to wait and see what my nails are like to find out if i am getting enough.

I heard from a dietician/fitness instructor once that you can eat as much dairlea as you like. That's got a goodly amount of calcium in it, hasn't it?

good luck with your lifestyle change anyway, I know it's really hard work with diabetes as well

I no longer drink cow's milk as I prefer soya milk instead.

However, I make up for it in my morning coffee, which is one-third double cream!

i love milk, we use over 6-8 pints a day between 4 of us! its got to be blue top milk though, colleagues buy the red top stuff and its so watery yuck!! my mum hates milk, wont have it at all and she has alzheimers and osteoporosis so may be some substance to that theory.

i'm doing a 6 week course about being diabetic and its really interesting learning about food combinations etc you dont have to cut out anything, just eat in moderations.

Not sure if they d it in your area but ask if they run Xpert Patient programmes near you.

hope you get on well with the weight loss, i am more commited to it since starting this course, and hering another users sucess story on here

My brother has got diabetes as well and he lost 3 stone in 3 months and he has been giving me advice about what to eat, the nurse said i had high cholestrol and gave me 10mg statins but i decided not to take them because i looked on the net and found out they have really bad side effects, i have started taking extra strength 1000mg omega 3 which is suposed to lower your cholestrol. Also eating lots of pilchards on toast.

I was given simvastatin, not because I have high cholesterol, but because of precaution, again diabetes. I took them for 9 days, woke up the next morning and could hardly move. It took over three months to get those tablets out of my system. I've got my diabetes under control, through changing diet and excercise and refuse to take statins.

But for others they are a lifeline, if you're doctors are recommending them, try them or ask them not to prescribe Simvastatin

My mum drinks and has done for years milk by the gallon not only has she just be told her bones are week due to lack of calcium but for years everything has been in the oven if you ask her where something is. What's worse is I have caught the it's in the oven saying as well and I hate milk.
