Soap Weddings

It seems to me that weddings in soaps don't go without a hitch anymore whether it's fights, hostage situations, tragic accidents etc.

Recently on Corrie, Rana is killed after the factory roof collapses on her and Kate's wedding day.

I know that it has been a staple of soaps for decades for things to go wrong but I can't help but think that soap weddings that end happily are getting rarer and rarer every year.

Does anyone remember a soap wedding that didn't get ruined?

Because everything else in a soap opera is indicative of real life of course

There and to the left a bit

Isn't that part of the point of drama though? For there to be drama and everything not go smoothly? Whether that be in a serious or comedic way?

I understand that it's part of real life but it seems that these soaps can't go 5 mins without someone getting killed off.

That's why I don't watch soaps anymore. That and soaps these days are so depressing.

Depends which ones you watch - I only watch Corrie regularly now and it always seems to find the right mix of serious/silly and isn't depressing at all. Eastenders on the other hand is mostly depressing with the odd glimpse of light.

As for killing people off/overly dramatic storylines, they're an exaggerated version of real life and every day issues focussed into one small area so it's to be expected they seem unreal at times.

I do think they bring a lot of important issues to the public eye though

I'm not sure. I can remember Ashley and Claire's wedding on Corrie going ok plus it was on Christmas Day and it was snowing.

Talk about a fairy tale ending.
