Hugs and cuddles

Reading another forum, I came across a post from a middle aged woman who said she hadn't had any human physical contact since new years eve, not even a hand shake.

She seemed OK with that, but I personally, would start to become quite depressed if I had nobody to cuddle. I have my children who are still at a cuddly age. I have friends and family who hug as we greet each other and say goodbye. I miss the intimacy of having a partner but it's not going to affect my mental health not having snuggles as I fall asleep at night, I have a cat for that.

How important is physical contact to you? Would your happiness suffer if you had to go without it for a couple of weeks? Back when I was on here a few years ago a few forumites had cuddle meets to fulfill that need.

I love a good cuddle too and I'm a bit like yourself as in I have kids and 2 grandchildren who always have time for a cuddle.

I may miss the cuddle off a special person now and again but I don't dwell on it.

Agreed. There is a level of trust that needs to be reached before physical contact can take place.

Apparently the professions that are most stress free are those that feature prolonged sessions of physical contact, such as hair dresser and physiotherapist.

We should bring that back, I could do a cuddle meet!

It's important to me, but I do get lots of huggles from my child and I am quite tactile with friends and siblings.

A side note- my parents weren't very, so it's something that I wanted for my family x

Just having someone there.

I don't have any children or family and I live alone so I sometimes spend whole weekends without speaking to anyone.

Cuddles are so important in any relationship, they can ease a whole spectrum of emotions, and just make you fell wanted and loved, cant beat a sofa cuddle watching a cheesy film

Sounds like the woman in the original post didn’t have a problem with it, which is fine.

I do, and it’s the lack of physical intimacy in my relationship that brought on my depression so you need to pay attention to stuff if it does affect you

My cuddle needs are currently met by my kids, although my lad isn’t that forthcoming, he will indulge me on occasions..

I’m not overly keen on hugging for the sake of it. I have a friend who hugs everyone, I find that a tad odd at times.

I love to cuddle my daughters and my dogs.

But naked skin to skin cuddles are something else. Cuddles on a meet are ok but nothing beats the feeling when your with someone romantically. I do miss this.

I love a good hug and cuddles especially after sex. Something you don't seem to get in a club .. I do have a couple of regular female friends that stay over occasionally .. Anyone that fancies a hug and cuddles drop me a message .. I'm very tactile and love lots of cuddles x

I had a bad day yesterday, and went home to an empty house, wishing I could just cuddle up to someone.

I enjoy my single life, the freedom etc, but there are times it feels a bit empty

Outwardly, I am warm and friendly, but I am naturally quite aloof and not a natural 'mixer'

I'm not a big one for physical contact either

I have been accused by more than one partner of being cold / unloving in that respect

I bore of people very quickly too - it's not good for me to be round the same person for protracted periods

I'm not husband material

My mom is a very tactile loving mom there is always plenty of hugs just as mom's parents were. My aunt (moms sister) is the complete opposite stand offish even with her own kids.

Both bought up in the same environment but such different people. I'm glad I got the loving huggy mom...god bless her.

Hugs are highly underrated.

They can change someone's mood on an instant.

I'm a very tactile person, just talking with friends I have a habit of touching people, on their arm, hand or leg, knee. I don't even realise I'm doing it.

I grew up in a huggy house, I hug my kids all the time.

One thing I do miss about being single, a good long hug after a tough day, falling asleep wrapped tight in someone's arms.

A Chihuahua on my pillow isn't quite the same

I'm not much of a cuddler; I get my fix from skin contact while having sex.

Cuddling my grandchildren or the family animals is a different feeling to having a man's warm flesh on me.

I would only want someone to cuddle me properly-all night for instance- if they had strong feelings towards me.

I have unintentionally done this in the past and they always turned out to be the worst meets. I just felt lonlier afterwards as the level of intimacy that I craved wasn't there. I won't meet now if I feel like that to begin with, it's healthier to get your head sorted first.

I'm not a touchy-feely person. I don't have kids and apart from a wee hug and a peck from my parents when I see them I don't have a lot of physical contact (my friends are all quite tactile, they've given up on me!).

I do feel a bit left out and crave it sometimes but I also know I'd want it to be with someone I can truly feel comfortable with so I'm happy to wait for that.
