"Seems a bit like a modern version of the old fashioned freakshow dressed up to be socially acceptable. Theres a Mitchell and Webb sketch about these types of show." Perhaps back then the freak show for the sake of pure entertainment was what it was . This however , is not like that . We get to hear how the people feel , their insecurities , how they want to be accepted , how they wish people would ask them about their condition . I would think a lot of the people on here who get stigmatised would understand more than most about this . I see no reason why extraordinary people shouldn’t have their fifteen minutes of fame too . Especially when it’s a programmer that’s done sensitively like this . We see billionaires flouting their wealth on tv , all manner of wannabe fame hungry folk on reality tv , cooks , bakers and all sorts . So why not these people , so that we may understand them a little better than we do now . And so that they get a voice .

Dont think most people are watching out of compassion some how. I think most are probbaly watching for the exact same reason people went to freak shows

"Say what you like about this type of programme , but I just watched it on channel 5 and loved it . A house full of people that each have something very different about them . A guy with no legs , a woman who is only 3 foot 5 , a bearded woman , a woman who is 6 foot 9 , a woman covered in small tumors , a guy with severe vitiligo , a guy who had his leg cut off because he always wanted to only have one leg and felt he didn’t connect with it . They get to work in normal jobs , go to a party and it’s heartwarming as well as bringing the odd tear to ones eye . Great TV " It’s The Greatest Showman meets Big Brother

Great TV It’s The Greatest Showman meets Big Brother " You should read what that guy was actually like. He was a fairly ruthless exploitative con man not some lovley guy like the movie. He did run a traditional freakshow

I watched the undateables once and didn’t watch it again. Most people were watching it for the “laugh”. I remember seeing it all over Facebook about how “funny” it was. Disgusting in my opinion. Haven’t watched this one so can’t comment.

"On tonight as well, will be watching " Yep , 10 o’clock . I liked the bit last night where the lady held the woman’s hand to look at the lumps , with no fear or judgement , and told her she should be more confident . There are some nice people out there

" Now that’s an odd one because I find that we like the undateables because again , it’s a heartwarming show and an opportunity for the less fortunate to get to date and find happiness . Sure there’s been the odd laugh , especially with the Tourette’s guy , but by and large more of a warm feeling inside seeing them so happy . And since ordinary people laugh , often at themselves too , why shouldn’t the less fortunate evoke a laugh or two ? Nothing wrong with that in my humble opinion . As long as it’s not purely to poke fun at and laugh entirely ‘at ‘ their misfortune , I think they deserve to be allowed to entertain like any other demographic group .

"I'm surprised a medical professional would agree to remove a perfectly functioning leg He had to go to Thailand to find a Dr who would do it ." Not surprised about that. Not really sure how it makes him an extraordinary person tbh

He said he always wanted to just have one leg , and that his leg was something that he never wanted . He was so happy when it was removed , and seeing him as happy as that kind of made it make some sense , albeit at the end of the day , a very strange situation .

"To think of people watching such shows just for the crack is reprehensible. I saw this advertised and it looked interesting and if it helps to bridge the gap in understanding of each other I think it's a good thing. We should be able to laugh at and with each other as long as not borne out of meaness. The undatables have left me with mixed emotions as I followed their journey. Empathy, warmth, compassion and best of all hope. People needing to be love and be loved just like a lot of us. " Absolutely , couldn’t agree with you more
