I went away 4 times on my own last year .... very liberating! you can do what you want when you want and if you book in Expedia or something like that amazing holidays can be pretty cheap !!

It’s brilliant, first time last year to Thailand, booked a hotel for 3 nights in Bangkok then just winged it from there. Travelled around met new people, listening to great music and podcasts. Nobody panicking about where we’ll sleep that night, or eat. My holiday my rules my god I enjoyed it, this year off on my Motorbike around Europe

I've holidayed alone for the last 20 years. If that makes me sad, so be it!

London

I used to go on holiday with my family and friends. After my eldest got married in 2012 I just needed to get away and relax...and I wanted an adventure.

For a birthday present to myself I set off alone to Marrakech: what an adventure! My children, ex husband, sisters etc thought I was absolutely bonkers. I joined Facebook and kept them updated daily.

Every year I go on holidays with friends, but I also go on holiday alone too: I feel recharged after a period of me time.

Go and enjoy op!

Thanks for all your messages, really good to hear where everyone has been and to know that going on your own really recharges you which I really need.

No, it's more common than you realise. Stay in backpacker hostels and meet some interesting people you maybe wouldn't have otherwise.
