To me games like snooker, darts, chess and golf aren’t sports but are pastimes.

I've always thought a sport is a competition or challenge that requires physical exertion

The definition is something to do with rules and competition. So lots of ‘activities’ that might not obviously appear to be sports actually are. But, of course, that doesn’t mean they’re to everyone’s taste.

That involves running, jumping and hurdling if the bugger turns up too early!

Surely a sport is something you have to take your jumper off for and get a little sweaty?

An ex sportsman I used to work with said it's not a sport if you don't have to change your shoes

And surely darts is not a rich man's sport either, it's a pub game after all!

Cheerleading isn’t yet recognised as a sport but I shall continue to campaign! And no, it’s not about jumping around at sports events shaking your Pom poms

Definitely don't have to be rich to play darts and golf can be played cheaply too.

Young was terrible. Quiet. Shy. Immature. Socially awkward in many ways.

I needed a good stress incident and 4 months of mindfulness counselling 6 years ago to make me who I am now.

So like everyone else. Body younger. Mind as is now.

The skill required to play snooker/darts at the top level is incredible, borderline ridiculous. We're talking millimetres making the difference!

However as they don't involve running around, six packs, sweat etc then they always receive ridicule. Sports in my eyes!

Playing snooker at amateur level is ridiculously difficult.

Most people wouldn’t be able to pot two balls in a row. Yet don’t consider it a sport

As a few people have said already, a sport is a game being played competitively - typically in a structured organisation and possibly for money or other reward beyond having fun and killing time.

Being physical (or "sporty") as you carry out the activity has nothing to do with it. See snooker, chess, videogames, competitive eating...
