"Pulp fiction is his best! "

Was having this debate with my flat mate. She really doesn't see the big deal with Pulp Fiction. Personally I think a good metric of his directorial impact is the fact that his films are so memorable. There's always something stand out.

That being said The Hateful Eight wasn't that great. For me though I have to give the overall title to Django Unchained. Closely followed by Inglourious Basterds. And only because Christoph Waltz probably has the most charismatic and arresting first 10 minutes to introduce themselves to a wider Hollywood audience that I can remember. He steals every scene. What an actor.

I don't rate him much anymore. His overuse of lengthy monolgues is just a way to show off his intelligence. It's posturing at its worst.

I have a lot of time for Tarantino and his oddness. He co-wrote the screenplay to True Romance and that film has always had a very special place in my heart. Oh Clarence

As a director his finest work for me is Reservoir Dogs. There is still a geeky film student inside who still gets excited about the movie.

Why are people saying the hateful eight was a bad movie? It's a typical Quentin Tarantino film....

Love the guys work. Definitely a genius. But, definitely love some of his work a lot more than others.Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs are timeless classics that I would watch again and again. Jackie Brown and Death Proof, not so much. But I do look forward to his new movies. Can't wait for Star Trek. Could be shamazing !

Hateful eight was still a great film, obviously not his best, but, to be able to convey a complex yet detailed story from a simple cabin in the middle of nowhere is brilliant. I think the reason tarrantinos films are so good is due to the strength of his characters; they're so detailed. Also his ability to combine gore with humour; the bizarre violence constantly gets me laughing.

While not Taranteno directed films at the end of Grindhouse (2007) there are some trailers for "other" upcoming films. Some were made, others were not.

Planet Terror

Machete

Machete Kills

Death Proof

Well worth watching Planet Terror if you haven't seen it; If only for the one legged stripper with a machine gun for a leg.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planet_Terror

The Machete films (Danny Trejo) have some of the best lines ever.

"Machete kills, that's what he does".

Only death proof was Tarantino, the rest are all Robert Rodriguez. They teamed up to make grindhouse but directed a film each in it

I'd like to see him do something that didn't involve any of his favourite actors.

I'd like to see him do a serious war film. Something Full Metal Jacket-esque.. About modern warfare.

I want to see the brutality in which he'd capture it. Visceral and damaging to the people who are in it. Less heist, more futility of it all. Memorable oratory.

Love Kill Bills, Pulp, Resevoir, Django and True Romance. Jackie Brown is ok. The rest is a bit meh for me.

Every director has their influences.. I'm not sure Tarantino hasn't taken anything from anyone else without paying homage to where it came from. Bringing attention to them in the process. I wouldnt call that stealing.

Really quite bad:

Hateful Eight

Inglorious Basterds

.

Really bloody good:

Resevoir Dogs

Actually thought, Jackie Brown was his best film and I was blown away with Pulp Fiction. He does actually get ideas from Japanese Kung Fu films and Blaxploitation as well, but he’s honest enough to admit that.

However he can go on a bit, certainly Django could have been 20 minutes shorter

He does, that's why I don't see it as stealing.

He does go on too long though.. Hateful 8 was way too long.

I agree it’s not ‘stealing’ , in Kill Bill he didn’t steal the outfit from Bruce Lee’s ‘Game of Death’ it’s a tribute to that cult film and to Bruce himself. I actually admire his subtle winks to other film genres and his love for cult films and their actors, thanks to Quentin a few get a second career.

I have some criticisms of Quentin but as a film lover, the world of American Cinema is better with him in it, than if he had never made a film.
