Bit random for a swingers site but does anyone else enjoy growing chilli plants ?

I'm dabbling with food (more salad I guess) so it's chilli plants, tomatoes, cress, cucumbers etc

Any suggestions for new varieties of chillis to try growing and anything else that's easy and tasty.

I don't grow chillies because we don't eat enough of them. I grow rocket, salad leaves, tomatoes, aubergines and cucumbers in the greenhouse. Outside I grow french beans, runner beans and courgettes along with various herbs then I have a small area for strawberries and raspberries. I freeze the excess beans and tomatoes.

The trick is to not grow stuff you're not likely to eat. The year I grew cucamelons is etched onto our memory

Salad leaves and rocket are great for windowsills.

We have a chilli plant. Have had for years and it just grows and grows and grows. I don’t do anything special for it. It’s a shame I can’t abide chillis though my friends say they’re lovely and strong.

I grew cherry tomatoes one year. They were great, it was actually sunny that year.

Chilli plants no. Too posh for me.

Not a clue. They’re about the size of my little finger and a dark red when they’re ready.

I grew chilli plants from seed on a sunny windowsill in work one year.

Not only did they thrive, but the plants lasted nearly three years!

I was very impressed as I thought they'd only survive a year, like tomato plants.

With them growing indoor I did have to pollinate them using a paintbrush though.

I've got more seeds to try this year.

I bet you've got an indoor toilet too.

You've inspired me, I might have a look at seeds when the rain stops. That will be a death knell to any chance of a good weather summer.

I've found chillies and peppers quite easy to grow here on the south coast.I buy small plants rather than grow from seed.I pickle chillies as I grow far more than i can eat.

I'm lucky that I have ladybirds and they eat them

Other than that you can make sprays(none toxic) or hose them off especially if they're in a pot that you can turn upside down.

Yep grow them in the greenhouse and use them very frequently in my cooking. Have grown Hungarian hot wax, Cheyenne, Scotch Bonnets, Habanero, Surinam Yellow, Carolina Cayenne, Numex Sauva to name a few....

I do, plus with the plants in work my co workers could help themselves too.

After I realised that they got infested fast my mama told me to sieve flour on the plant. I don’t know why but it works and I never had anymore issues.

I planted some seeds but nothing happened. Do love chili so it would've been nice to grow my own.

Get them as an already established plant and they don’t need much of a helping hand. Just water and a sunny spot. I’m south facing and my plant thrives like an audrey 2.

Thanks. I planted them under a tree thinking it's protect them, didn't know they needed direct sunlight.

Try a window sill inside and as the other person suggests start with a small plant rather than seeds and you'll have much more success

Last year we grew habanero, jalapeno & basket of fire. So much better than shop bought when you've grown them yourself, more fruity tasting than just heat. Radish are easy & quick to grow...nice peppery taste off a fresh one & so good in a salad

I've just got into growing radish and want to try peppers.

I like lettuce but the ones I grew were horrible floppy leaved ones and I like iceberg.

Going to try carrots

Chanteney carrots are a good one as they are short stubby ones & taste great. Try some on containers with a mix of 1/3 compost, 1/3 sand & 1/3 soil but make sure theres no stone in the soil otherwise your carrots will fork when they find the stone. Thats how you get the 'rude' carrots
