I've had several messages from couples and males on here telling me how much they disapprove of my ink or how I've ruined my body. It really baffles me why anyone would care to be honest. Or why they feel the need to contact me to state their disapproval.

Women, and men, come in all shapes, colours, sizes and with different hair styles and preferences etc. I get we all have our own preferences and as long as we respect each other's wants and are honest from the start then fab could be such a great place. I myself have tattoos, some women like them, some don't. I think on certain women, ink looks sexy and gives them great appeal, but as it is with men too, they don't suit or compliment everyone. It's a matter of personal choice, but ink on skin doesn't make the personality and person underneath.

Got mine done as a way of reclaiming my body back. I got them fairly cheap as well at the time because nobody else was covered in them (not even men).

I also grew up in an art gallery, love drawing (and am good at it), so body pic collecting was perfect for me.

Don't really care if it turns people off coz i am bored of being fetishized for having them.

Choice. Tattoos can have many positive aspects to an individual; expression of individuality, overcoming personal crises, beliefs or even just creative preference. It is their bodies. Some find it attractive, some dont. Who cares? As long as the right to choose is respected. I find tattoos a turn on but there are many other ways a woman is attractive to me than how they decorate their skin.

I find tattoos and piercings so sexy on a lady. I know I have a few tattoos myself and I do get a lot of compliments about them. I had them done for me and over the years each tattoo has a story to tell about important events in my life. If you look at the origins of tattoos they do represent a life story. So for me it's a personal thing .. You either love them or hate them

It's all very well women and men for that matter claiming that it's their body and they can do what they like with it. I associate tattooing with self-harm. No one approves of people who eat too much then stick their finger down their throats to vomit it out. Or those who actually self-harm. We view these sort of behaviour as unacceptable. There are many other examples I can site but you get the idea.

Since I am a straight man I can only speak from my point of view. I loathe tattoos on women. Even small discreet ones are hideous to me. The point is this, every part of the body has the potential for being arousing and sexy at various stages of our moods and minds.

Once you add bits of graffiti on that part of the body it ceases to sexually arouse. Instead distracts your eyes and mind. We all know how the Victorian men found women's bare ankles alluring and ever so risque. Now women tend to target their ankles to disfigure. Imagine what the Victorians would have made of this desecration?

As a man, I find every part of a woman's body beautiful to look at. Well most anyway. When they decide to ink bits of it, the shape and line of the naked body alter permanently. I no longer am able to see the body entirely.

As I fuck a woman from behind I don't want to be literate or an art critic. Clearly, we men are not capable of intelligent thought at that moment anyway, are we? I want to see a female arse, not pictures.

I expect I will attract women with tattoos to throw rotten eggs at me. So be it. I still fucking hate tattoos. You cannot possibly better nature by scribbling nonsense on your natural sexual skin. And all for a moment of glory. It is not trendy, hip or cool as most who get tattoed believe. All they end up doing is looking a mess and tacky. I thank you.

As others have said, tattoos are personal and exclusive to the individual. Each one tells a story. I've seen some beautiful artwork on people's bodies (especially on here). I'm in awe as I've never had the bottle to get ink done myself. Each to their own, I'd never be so shallow to judge someone just by how they look.

You’re entitled to your opinion, I respect that, what I don’t respect is you calling people like me a mess and tacky. I would never be so crass as that.

I also think that you don’t give yourself, or other men the credit deserved. Men are more than capable of intelligent thought when having sex. They are more than a penis, just as tattooed women are more than a canvas.

My body is inked because I love it. I’ve never been, or desired to be trendy, hip or cool, I’m simply me.

My body, my choice.

There are plenty of women who don’t adorn themselves with body art, so I’m sure that women like me, not appealing to you, isn’t actually an issue, in the grander scale of things.

It's not so much a question of liking / disliking tattoos on women, rather, who is the woman beneath the inking? / what do the tattoos themself represent? / what degree of creativity has gone into the design? / uniqueness? / how does this complement the type of overall look (fashion) being projected?

For example;

Amy Winehouse - talented, troubled, creative, iconic etc - her tattoos created part of her overall style and uniqueness;

Versus;

A Jeremy Kyle Show type of guest, shopping in Asda and chuffing on cigarettes, toothless and displaying a naff tattoo on her bingo winged arm (or even worse, sagging tit)...

This is the kind of thing I mean.

(Side note - a tattoo of ones childs name / date of birth I find particularly tacky and vulgar).

Just my opinion of course.

I take your point. However, in my view, tattooing is a form of self-harm. Body adornment has been around since the start of human history. Maori tattoos (moko) traditionally tell the family history.

They're a form of adornment for westerners. A permanent fashion. Most of mine didn't even hurt so i don't get how those ones could be a form of self harm at all? Just because i like being covered in pictures doesn't mean that, you can equate patterned clothing as the same thing except those are removable and changeable.

Personal insults aren’t required, and serve no benefit. Personally my response was more about how insulting you were about women with tattoos, and trying to equate them with being psychological issues- ie, self harm.

You can say you don’t like something, without resorting to crass and ill informed comments.

You appreciate what you like, I don’t think you being a straight guy has anything to do with that though, many straight guys admire tattooed women, so not sure how you can equate your sexuality with it. Maybe I’m missing the point you were trying to make.

Personally I love how diverse people are. I love body art, but also appreciate the beauty of those without it. I’ve been insulted so many times by the non inked for my tattoos, how ugly my body/they look, and the ageing argument, but what I fail to understand is why anyone deems it acceptable to launch into personal attacks, when I’ve not even invited discussion of my tattoos. They’ve simply felt entitled to bring up the subject to do so.

I’m not saying that’s what you’re doing, nothing has been directed to me personally, but I would hope you see my point. A viewpoint does not mean that someone should feel justified in insulting someone else, for no other reason than they don’t agree with something. One of the women I admire most is beautiful, she has no body art, chooses not to have it, and that’s my mum. One of the things that makes her beautiful is her tolerance of others, and not just her skin.

For those of us who love body art, we will continue to do so, for those who don’t, you will do the same. Imagine how dull the world would be, if we didn’t have differing views. If we were all uniform in our train of thought.

Thankfully we’re not, and live in an enlightened and delightfully eclectic society. That’s what matters, not whether or not someone has a tattoo x

I agree with everything you say. The need to be able to exercise freedom of choice and expression is fundamental to our sense of being.

I, of course, have not held back from expressing exactly how I feel. To me, tattooing is disfigurement of the body. I cannot but associate this act other than self-harm. Of course, I accept you and everyone else who has tattoos see it the opposite. In the general scheme of things, what difference will it make what I say or think about tattoos?

I am simply clearing some of the cobwebs. Which clutter my mind. However, I fear as this has no other way to go but become a debate about self-expression and basic human rights. The simple fact will dissolve into the background. Once again, when I look at the naked body, I want to see a naked body. It is not just a matter of preference or to belittle those with tattoos. I find like most straight men most female naked body delightful and alluring. The tattoos disturb the pleasure. The body is no longer visible in its raw natural state. How can I appreciate a sexy arse if I can't see it? Instead, it's covered in whatever. Whatever it is which turns me on to the female body is not there. What would be the point in trying to work through the ink and see the shape? Incidentally, I trained in the creative arts. So am in most cases capable of looking at an image or shape as intended. My wife has 2 tatoos, a small one on her hip and large on her left ankle, and my heart sinks whenever I see them. I hate them both and would gladly pay to have them removed. The small one looks like it was done by a friend in primary school with a sharpie, the large one is a "version" of Botticelli's Birth of Venus. Over ambitious, badly drawn and done too big so the figure of Venus looks OK (well OK as in a pencil drawing by a 5th form art student) and well proportioned, but the shell wraps round her ankle so looks silly from most angles, totally ruining the gracefullness of her ankles - and totally detracts from her hotwife anklets!

In fact, both tatoos are only visible during what should be "sexy times"; when she's naked, wearing a bikini or a posh frock for a night out. So they have very little impact in her day to day life or her public image, but a huge impact on the way she presents visually to me, at times when she would hope to look at her sexiest and most alluring to her partner.

She had them both done when she was in her early twenties. She wants more, I say no way, not unless she removes the first 2 disasters (in fact I offered her a deal, get her nipples pierced and she can have another tat, she says no way, lol). To my eyes they are simply hideous disfigurements on my otherwise prefectly beautiful wife, like birth marks or burn scars but self inflicted!

I get people see them as an expression of creativity, but if you want to express your creativity by painting your house bright pink, you may love it, but you must accept the pool of potential future buyers is limited by your decision, and the market value of your property greatly decreased due to to lower levels of potential interest.

I've seen there's also a growing backlash online against over tatood women amongst young men. I think the free-for-all acceptance over the last 20 years of women's decisions to tat up is coming to an end and people are becoming more openly judgemental.

I have two young kids who I will therefore counsel to avoid tats until they have found their life partners. We all make so much effort to look good to the opposite sex, then why do something which has the potential to turn off a large chunk of our "target market"? It makes no sense to me at all.

I love my wife absolutely, but I feel sad I have to live with bad decisions she made when she was young, when I cast my gaze over her naked form adoringly only to cringe at the sight of those two artless doodles.

I'll try to help my kids avoid making the same decisions until they have partners with whom they can discuss and agree whether and what colour to paint the house!

I don't think anyone is "creating" a backlash, there's no organised anti tat movement, but young guys are noticing and commenting on a high level of tats among "troubled" young women: strippers, prostitutes, cam girls, porn stars, drug users, party girls, insta girls etc. Also there's apparently a lot of tattooing among ex-cutters, perhaps contributing to the unpopular views expressed above relating to self harm and tats?

I'm picking up a general swing towards conservatism among young men these days, they seem to be rejecting the permissiveness of the last decades and expressing desires for more traditional women in their lives. In particular there also seems to be a growing concern over the past sexual history of potential partners, following research suggesting a high partner count early in life correlates with difficulty long term partner bonding and high divorce probability/single motherhood!

Times they are a changin' folks... who'd be a parent!

Ohh I hate all tattoos, even bigger cover ups would not restore the elegance to her high heeled ankle.

She made bad decisions? In your opinion, maybe she likes them. If she doesn’t then why not get her cover ups? But let her decide what, it’s still her body, even if you do have to look at it.

We all have a past, it just depends on whether we meet someone supportive enough to recognise that. And painting a house together doesn’t mean tastes won’t change or joint “ownership” won’t alter.

If we all put our lives and decisions on hold, until we met someone who would make them for, sorry, with us, we’d never experience anything. Sure you have made bad decisions that your wife has to contend with, even if they’re not visual reminders. Hers just make it easier for you to criticise her past x
