I was wondering if anyone can help, as I cant get through to Sky's tech supoort (surprise, surprise!!)

Local council are "doing up" the fronts of the houses in my area. Today they started on my side of the street and have put up the scaffolding. The sky dish is on the front of the house.

This evening, some of the channels are blank, some have a delay and some are ok. Looking at the sky website, it does mention about scaffolding and states "should go back to normal once scaffolding is gone!"

So my questions to tech support when I get to speak to someone is, Do I have to put up with this all the time the scaffolding is up? (Going to be weeks, if not months, as that's how long it took them to do the other side!) Can Sky come out to me and re-aline my dish? Will they charge me? Will I get a discount while I dont have full service?

Sky will move your dish but will charge for this. They will still charge normal monthly fee as its not their fault you have scaffolding outside your house.

i know when they install it they try to avoid having trees etc nearby so you will probably have the problem while the scaffold is still there - doubt there is much that can be done unless you pay for it to be moved

Dont tell them about the scaffolding and just phone up and say your not getting a picture etc.. they will send someone for free to re-align your dish..

when my neighbours had an extension in to the roof they had to put scaffolding up on my property and it blocked the signal completely. I got them to pay the sky bill for two months while it was up....so you could ask whoever is responsible for altering your house to pay?

Ask the contractor to move the dish temporarily to the outside of the scaffold using a qualified tv/sat installer while the work is being done and then to move it back afterwards.

We currently have contractors doing external render works to some of our blocks of flats and as part of the contract we asked them to allow for moving the dishes at no cost to the tenants.

Worth a phone call to your Council's Housing Department to see if they have asked their contractors to do the same.

This is my plan of action tomorrow morning!

Finally spoke to Sky, they will charge to re-aline it. It's down to who ever is doing the work to sort it. And that they better had!!!!

If the scaffold is interuppting the line of sight from the dish it will increase the bit error rate of the signal to the point where you lose some or all of the channels.

You need the dish moved to a place where the scaffy doesn't interfere with it.

Up here the scaffy company arrange to have the work done and pay for it, then maybe they in turn recover the cash from the council ...
