Why do people say this on threads? It shuts down debate and takes the piss out of the question.

It's obviously the answer to any question that can ever be asked, so why bother?

Of course the question could be phrased differently to allow for different answers but this isn't an English language lesson forum.

It just comes across as really unfriendly.

I find it comes across as a jaded response to repetitive threads (apart from the daily kiss fuck avoid threads that no one ever gets tired of).

People on here can be very unfriendly. Also people like to be flippant and appear to be above the debate or thread at hand, it's like the 'cool kid' at school who always gave the sarcastic response.

Some threads deserve the disdain! Numerous threads are started seemingly just for the sake of it. What do you think of x, y and z? 'Discuss.' Many times there isn't even any explanation as to why the OP felt inspired to start the thread. Do you like the colour green. Discuss...

There’s a few forumites that do this and I find it pretty rude, dismissive and lazy. Especially when they do it to a newby posting a genuine question, it’s like they can’t let a thread pass them by, if you haven’t got anything worthwhile to say then, maybe just maybe don’t make a comment.

Yes that too. "

I've often used the "some do, some don't/some will, some won't" response but that's because it invariably is the honest and *only* correct answer to some of the "preference" questions that crop up regularly - Fab is a diverse place made up of many different people with many different views so when someone says something like "Do people like hairy?" for example, the *only* answer is "some do, some don't" or "yes".

Now having said that I'll then go on to clarify and give my own preference if there is one - but don't necessarily think simply answering "some will, some won't" is being dismissive - it's answering the question posed, albeit in the most obvious way - same as answering simply with one word "yes", "no" or "maybe" is.

I find it slightly irritating at times. That's why I'll actually answer the question the Op has asked. I think with regards to preference questions, they are asking to get personalised responses. I highly doubt anyone isn't aware that some will, some might some don't. It can read as shutting down a conversation with some generic bullshit that's trollied out far too often.

Isn't the point of the forum that it's inclusive, anyone can post almost anything for pretty much any reason, and anyone can reply with almost anything.... I like that principle....

If a post is shit, it sinks, if its good it takes off....

I just saw some poor dude asking for help about using his hotlist and a girl shut him down telling him it's not the place???

It's always the place though, it's his little place that he created
