Why do people lie about age on here

Today I had arranged a 'social' with a view to going on elsewhere if we got on. I tend to take people as I find them, fairly open minded and think I am fairly perceptive. I turned up as arranged after a couple of chats on the phone and as is normal had some butterflies awaiting the arrival of my 'meet'. Time is getting on and I sent a text just to see if she was running late, the phone of this older lady on the table next to me pinged, she then turned round and introduced herself, she said she didnt before as she was nervous. I would have if I had known it was her, she supposed to be 36 but I expect it over 2 decades since she was last 36!

So I had another coffee and a chat and went on my merry way (I felt it was the polite thing to do), its the first time its happened to me, but I don't understand why people lie about their age if they intend meeting or even if they don't intend meeting.....It has made me a little bit more cross as the day has gone on!

Tell me your stories.......

I think this too OP. I know it happens a lot and when I read on a profile "my age is actually xx, won't let me change it" I think how the fuck do you get your own age wrong? Or else I think you've lied to seem younger/older, what else are you lying about?

Most people probably do it to fit into more age ranges I'd guess. A couple of decades is pushing it though.

First person I ever met on here for a social did that. I met him and I could just about see the resemblance. The pics he’d sent were at least 10 years old. I really don’t see the point in it at all. Ever since then I’ve been so wary.

Exactly this. It amazes me how they think that they're not going to get spotted though, absolutely flummoxed

Yeah you're always getting scooped, especially if you're a couple of decades older lol I would have to say something on my way out of that social and I don't feel like I could cushion the blow either

A few men have done this to me too. Usually just by the 1 decade though. It's like lying about height, do they think we won't notice?

Too late then though. They have got the opportunity to hope you see past it but it seems foolhardy to me.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

My age range may be blocking some people I would like to meet but my experience is that having it set at 60 already leads to men who are 70+ contacting me. Setting it at 37 means I can meet men in their 40s.

Lots of really tough paper rounds.

I have only come across one woman doing this. I used to see her at clubs but her profile claimed to be 15 years younger than she looked.

I agree. Funnily enough I was going to start on post on this very theme. I've had quite a few guys say that their age is wrong when I say I think they might be too young! One guy admitted to being 10 years older than his profile age. It just makes me think what else are you lying about.

Despite being "mature" I've never felt the need to lie about my age I can't see the point but maybe when I hit 60 I'll change my mind !

Its fairly simple why and that's to deceive others there is no other tangible reason.

The reasons why they want to do that is varied. Men do it to get under/over age limits both sexes do it to make their profiles less obvious to people who know them women and some men do it for vanity.

Of course it can work if its only a few years either way as some look younger some look older than they are but 20years is rather hopeful.

I'm guessing it's to beat the age restrictions on profiles.

I've come to realise that 45 seems to be most people's limit.

It used to be just the fact that I'm ugly as sin and devoid of charisma that was against me, now I'm really fucked (or not, as the case may be).

Hey-ho.

I met a guy through a well known dating app, went for a coffee etc, he'd claimed 36 on profile and was at least 56 and had used v old pics etc, when I asked him why he said "well everyone does it don't they"

Needless to say no more dates occurred.

I don't see the point in lying and deleting two decades. It's pretty obvious in person.

How odd. To say she's 36 and then turn up and be 50 odd?? Bizarre.

I have noticed that and did a post on it a while back. Strange, but true with ages on here. People are getting younger

The height issue is another hot topic for the fibbers... it happens a lot on here along with many other lies. Some liars do eventually get caught out, but a few get away with many things on here... crazy! still plenty of genuine fabbers on here that don't need to lie so it's all good.
