That Pint (a reprise) in the sun with the Germans.

I'm on holiday, or ollidee as us people from Brum call it. The Scots, the Welsh and the Irish aside I prefer to be stay in areas where there's a good mix of people from throughout Europe. I'm a bit more sceptical with our British Isles and Ireland bedmates, I know some (Scots, Welsh & Irish) just don't like us English because basically, we're just a bit too English for them. It's not racist or xenophobic or anything like that, it is what is known as "allowed".

It's fine, we're the mother hen, we get it and were not offended by the prejudism. We've got Buck Palace and Big Ben, Wembley and everything else. But just remember; we've got Barnsley and fucking Oldham as well. I don't dislike any of them in return but I do tend to tip-toe into conversations with them. Now before anybody starts getting offended, you know what I'm saying is true; I don't mind banter such as  the 'anyone but England' campaigns during sporting tournaments but some of you are just nasty about us and it's about time it stopped.

I have a lot of time for Scotland, I've been many times and my vocabulary isn't good enough to do the Highlands any justice. All I can say is that if you've never been then if possible make the time to go, just not in September, the midges will eat you alive.

I admire the Irish for their warm personalities,  for the legendary craic and their humility, all good traits. I have a soft spot for the Welsh too...but I think that's mostly out of pity.

Now let's get this straight; I'm a Remainer, I'm an internationalist. I like having the strong bond with Europe that we have have these past decades. I have no more faith in London to do the right thing for the British people than I do Brussels. I'm not particularly patriotic and I'd be fully prepared to water down my Englishness to become a fully-fledged European. I  accept that other Brits have a completely different view. I'm not one of these Remainers who subscribe to the theory that all Brexiteers are are just a bunch of bigoted xenophobes who fell for Farage's big red bus utopia, because I know this is exaggerated and only 92% true.

That said; by and large I just can't stand the Germans. Nothing's changed since the Sun newspaper gallantly led the 'towels on the  deckchair' campaign back in the '80s. I like to feel we've moved on since then. Not them though, they're still the queue jumping, bad-mannered self-imposed cocks of Europe they always thought they were. They lack personality and humility, don't like them, never will. The hotel I stayed in earlier this week was around 75% German occupied (no pun intended) and I saw nothing to alter my opinion of them. BMWs are shit in the snow and ice too.

Have this tune, it can be about anything you want it to be really but for me it's about love and belonging.

"Home, is where I want to be

But I guess I'm already there

I come home, she lifted up her wings

I guess that this must be the place"

If I had to move to another European country, it would probably be Germany.

I know many Germans and most of them are a decent bunch with great sense of humour

"They have good castles atop hillsides. "

Ooooh don't they just! B******s love a good Castle near a big bloody river as well

Don't get me started on the spa at Badlippespringe.. Naked bodies galore, my first time all out in the open with others. Proper posh as well. Till we found it.

*I just said I thought the Germans were awesome before, so I'm not getting done for racist remarks, it's a British Army Germany term of endearment for the Krauts. They are more tolerant of us than most British Garrison towns were. I even had a German Girlfriend & they have Gyros instead of Donor Kebabs. Oooh.. They've enjoyed wild sex for decades longer than us. Hamburg is insane! Love Germany.

Yeah our kids came in for a lot of prejudice at school due to their German heritage. A shame people still generalise in this way.

Germans are no different to anyone else. They come in various types. I've met good ones, bad ones and positively strange ones.. Much like anyone else.. Now if you want arrogant, take a look at the Russians!!

"They have good castles atop hillsides. "

Is atop hillsides the same as a castle on a hill?

"I can't work out if this is supposed to be humour or not."

Using this thread as a straw poll, 100% of British people care more about Germany than they do Oldham or Barnsley.

Yet...according to somebody on the 'Comic Relief thread, charity begins at home.

The truth is out there.

I have noticed that it isn't BMW's that are shit in the snow. It is BMW drivers in the British Isles that are shit in the snow.

I lived in Germany as a student many years ago. Rather than gritting the roads, the snow was compacted and everyone drove more carefully. Strangely enough, no more or no less accidents than any other time of the year. That was also well before winter tyres were compulsory.

Germans on holiday are a special breed, but more polite than Russians.

Yes. But more romantically poetic as befitting a castle (on a hill)

One of us is, yes.

You were comparing places to people and trying to make a point. If you'd claimed to dislike natives of Oldham and Barnsley and got the same response that would have been a different story.

Compared to the Chinese, Korean and Russian the Germans are a model of politeness.

Stalin and Mao had the right idea, keep the buggers behind a big wall or iron curtain
