I'm on holiday, or ollidee as us people from Brum call it. The Scots, the Welsh and the Irish aside I prefer to be stay in areas where there's a good mix of people from throughout Europe. I'm a bit more sceptical with our British Isles and Ireland bedmates, I know some (Scots, Welsh & Irish) just don't like us English because basically, we're just a bit too English for them. It's not racist or xenophobic or anything like that, it is what is known as "allowed".
It's fine, we're the mother hen, we get it and were not offended by the prejudism. We've got Buck Palace and Big Ben, Wembley and everything else. But just remember; we've got Barnsley and fucking Oldham as well. I don't dislike any of them in return but I do tend to tip-toe into conversations with them. Now before anybody starts getting offended, you know what I'm saying is true; I don't mind banter such as the 'anyone but England' campaigns during sporting tournaments but some of you are just nasty about us and it's about time it stopped.
I have a lot of time for Scotland, I've been many times and my vocabulary isn't good enough to do the Highlands any justice. All I can say is that if you've never been then if possible make the time to go, just not in September, the midges will eat you alive.
I admire the Irish for their warm personalities, for the legendary craic and their humility, all good traits. I have a soft spot for the Welsh too...but I think that's mostly out of pity.
Now let's get this straight; I'm a Remainer, I'm an internationalist. I like having the strong bond with Europe that we have have these past decades. I have no more faith in London to do the right thing for the British people than I do Brussels. I'm not particularly patriotic and I'd be fully prepared to water down my Englishness to become a fully-fledged European. I accept that other Brits have a completely different view. I'm not one of these Remainers who subscribe to the theory that all Brexiteers are are just a bunch of bigoted xenophobes who fell for Farage's big red bus utopia, because I know this is exaggerated and only 92% true.
That said; by and large I just can't stand the Germans. Nothing's changed since the Sun newspaper gallantly led the 'towels on the deckchair' campaign back in the '80s. I like to feel we've moved on since then. Not them though, they're still the queue jumping, bad-mannered self-imposed cocks of Europe they always thought they were. They lack personality and humility, don't like them, never will. The hotel I stayed in earlier this week was around 75% German occupied (no pun intended) and I saw nothing to alter my opinion of them. BMWs are shit in the snow and ice too.
Have this tune, it can be about anything you want it to be really but for me it's about love and belonging.

"Home, is where I want to be
But I guess I'm already there
I come home, she lifted up her wings
I guess that this must be the place"
