Does White Knighting work?

Well does it?

It's a common theme on here, a lady expresses some form of woe at a personal situation, (Apologies for my words, but having a brain fart on trying to encapsulate all situations) and all of a sudden guys from all over the country start offering support of all kinds.

I will agree that for a good proportion of it, these offers are well meant, but it is easy to see the classic "White Knight" stomp in and ramp up compliments regardless of any circumstance. (I know your cat had just died, but you are soooo beautiful blah blah blah).

I guess my question has 2 prongs. Firstly, to those gents who may have ulterior motive for offering support - had it ever got you laid? And do you feel slightly mercenary for what could be taking advantage of someone at a low point?

Secondly to the female posters - have you ever fallen victim to gents offering their consoling services?

Aww I think it is sweet in a fairly vomit inducing way.

It wouldn't get anyone laid but I would appreciate the sentiment.

There and to the left a bit

It's amusing to watch when it's obvious and is possibly one of the single biggest causes behind the "now if a woman/man had said that" comment.

That said I do think accusations of white knighting are sometimes thrown around a little too freely and sometimes by men who are doing a version of it themselves by putting another guy down in an attempt to curry favour.

As for whether it gets anyone anywhere I guess it comes down to the individual person being "white knighted" and whether they see it as a deliberate thing or genuine support, which it often is.

I think the women that post these woe is me type threads know exactly the type of response they will get. And the guys respond predictably. They kinda feed off each other. There is most definitely no actual sex involved though. Both parties would run a mile I expect. It's all about egos. No harm done.

Some of it could be subconscious, some of it could just be guys who type with their dicks instead of engaging their brains..

I've never asked for support or posted a n "I feel ugly" thread so I've never been white knighted. I suspect that my age and attitude would prevent the knights from mounting their chargers anyway .

I'm way too savvy to fall for it anyway

Some of it is so cringey and obvious, it’s hilarious. I can’t imagine it getting anyone anywhere though mainly because it’s the same men doing it. I’ve not really noticed any women doing it. There’s a couple of people who never fail to get in there with their ‘I'd never do that to you’ style posts when women complain or even make an observation about a negative experience.

I often step up to concur with a lone male who is new to the forums, even when they don't need me butting in.

It's no different to me offering my opinion on any other thread.

To answer the op, I would t reward a white knight with sex unless he was a handsome knight that I was attracted to.

I’ve said it many times that one of the worst sentences to hear on here is ‘his loss’ when talking about a guy that’s ditched you for whatever reason. It’s like it’s not the guys loss, the guy is choosing not to meet so the loss is with the woman or whoever has been let down.

Yeah and only 5 of the regular people that consistently have a go at me posted in that thread because the majority was positive and people who have spotted the negativity pattern.

It’s no secret that I get more (unnecessarily negative) comments towards me than anyone else and I ain’t trying to be a damsel in distress, it’s not men that want to shag me telling me this it’s intelligent women too who obviously don’t have an angenda.

Like I honestly don’t believe that a newish poster writing the same stuff as me would get the hostility or barbed comments. Fuck I have people saying that I have a bad attitude and treat people disgustingly like I’m some scum bag. Like I’m a young (ish) mother, my main job I look after a person with multiple sclerosis, yet I’m told I have a bad attitude and treat people badly. Baffles me. Rant over, apologies for the derailment.

On the flip side could that be why the forums are seen to be cliquey to some? It can be quite daunting as we know for newbies & I think some do forget that not everyone knows them and / or their style of posting.

Hiding in the shadows

One of my favourite forum games, spotting a thread by certain posters.

I'll read the OP, then scroll straight to the bottom & read the posts backwards.

I can pretty much know exactly who wrote the post before I even get to the name.

Attention seekers & their gaggle of dependable arse kissing W/Knighters.

Yep provides me with endless amusement.

Has it ever been done to me?

Not that really noticed, but then I'm not that needy to actually care.

Manchester (he/him)

Whether or not it actually works is doubtful, its usually seen as guys placing the 'nice guy' card too hard.

I think the actual term is thrown around rather liberally though, usually by other guys trying to put someone down. Its rarely anything more than vague platitudes so completely harmless unless you're injured by rolling your eyes!

As others have said there's often a mix up though between well intentioned but pointless sycophancy and actual genuine concern and support.

I suppose this is the cliquey behaviour people talk about "i know who" followed by a bunch of "oh yes" posts without anyone having the balls to actually say who theyre talking about.

Does seem a bit playground. Cause the person you quoted wasnt taking about a friend was she?

"So the 2 posts above are the white knighters/supporters?

I was just agreeing that I can usually work out who’s post it is.

Who?

When people post threads. Some you can just tell. I have a couple of friends who are obvious as they have great humour.

I suppose this is the cliquey behaviour people talk about "i know who" followed by a bunch of "oh yes" posts without anyone having the balls to actually say who theyre talking about.

Does seem a bit playground. Cause the person you quoted wasnt taking about a friend was she?"

I have no idea who the other poster was referring to, I was just laughing as I too play the same game too. You really love to stir things up. Not sure why?

You can't always name names on here. People report, you get a holiday."

Thats naming and shaming saying "i always recognise a fireblade or tame impala thread and know xyz will always pop up and flirt with them isnt against the rules.

Youd only not name them if you were trying to have a sly dig

Doesn't matter to me whether it the poster is Male or female if I feel I have something to add or a bit of advice to impart then I will be it in agreement, support or to disagree.

When I was single and would post something that was a ‘woe me thread’ I didn’t do it for people to go ‘poor you’ etc, at the time as odd as it sounded this was my ‘safe space’ and where I felt comfy as I was very lost and felt I could air whatever drama was unfolding, most of the time I didn’t get many replies (even less now) but that was ok because I just got to air however I was feeling and it did help me. Granted a swing site isn’t always the place but it’s funny where you feel comfy.

And no, I never had a sympathy shag through any of it lol.

Are you accusing those women of having a sly dig at somone?

Surely not, i mean clearly they where just talking about thier firends and how they can reognise them by thier respective arse lickers?

If it was to be nasty and name and shame yes. If people won't name them I think we can assume they are not being nice about someone and are having a dig

Having sly digs without naming is not really in the spirit of the forum and can still be a ban

I'm not accusing anyone of doing anything. I was talking about not naming any one and Phoenix never mentioned anyone in particular did she? I thought she was speaking in general terms.

But that’s what at least 26 women and 6 men consistently do about me. They all make comments which are in reference to me, I know they’re about me, the people doing it know it’s about me yet they won’t name me so they don’t pick up the attention of the mods.

That’s what other people are noticing lately so much so that they take the time to say privately, fuck, you do get a lot of unnecessary flack.

It’s childish and we’re supposed to be grown ups on here.

O o O oo

Ok maybe time to shut this now

Please remember, being nasty about a user just because you don't like what they type is against forum rules...whether you name them or not

Also because people answer a thread doesn't mean they are digging at you, they just may disagree with what you write. As long as they don't attack anyone when posting then they are allowed to post

If people can accept that we are all welcome on the forum and don't need digs at others just because their posts annoy you...just avoid their posts please
