All you mature swingers on here, how did you hook up before the internet came along, did you take out adverts in the local paper or was it smoke signals. Or was it simply meet at clubs and then it was word of mouth ?

"Keys in an ashtray wasn't it "

That’s jumping to the conclusion the other couple are swingers, they might just think what the fuck is he doing with his keys.

London

When I first tried to get started in the 1980s, all you had were magazines like Experience and Exclusive, that had contact pages. You had to send your written interest in a letter to the publishers, with a cheque to cover postage and their fees, and wait eagerly for a response in the post. Personally, it was a waste of time, effort, and money!

That all changed in the early 90s, with the opening of clubs around the UK, though strictly speaking, if you wanted to go to a good swingers' club back then, you had to travel North. There was also a club known as "Honeycomb" which I was a member of from 1994 for a few years, which was a contact service similar to the ones used by contact magazines. Honeycomb advertised in free ads paper Loot (how many of you remember that?). They also organised socials in central London, which were the best way of interacting and meeting others. From then on, the club scene began to expand greatly during the next 10 years, to what it is now. I didn't start using internet swinging until 2004, but really enjoyed the first few years of doing so, on a site that charged £50 membership per year.

Birmingham

I had my first ever meets via a phone chatline.

However, must be said that the early internet days were very different than now. I remember there being local adult groups on a site called excite. Msn had adult groups as well. When both of those closed their adult groups we jumped ship to yahoo groups.
