I don’t think everyone who grew up in a council house is a chav .

There is something about a chav that just typifies the meaning that google gives us .

CHAV

The usual Chav, Stands for Council House affiliated Vermin, is a person that stand outsides Mcdonalds all the time but doesn't actually have enough money to actually go in. If you don't know what a chav looks like go to your park and look for a bench, there will be a flock of the creatures. If there are females in the group, the males will make their shitty baseball caps face 90degrees skyward in some type of crude mating display and use their own language to attract a mate, using phrases like: "F***! Yur lu'in fit, bitch! Ho muuch fur da nite, blud" You will also see younger males perfomed this mating dance aswell, don't be shocked by this sight as, by the age of 11, most chavs have already had a child or an abortion.

Most chavs listen to "ganstazz" music from people that are usaully girls that show as much as flesh possible or men that talk fast about drugs, guns, booze and shooting people, which is all that stimulates a chav's mind. They all like to pretend that they are black but are also extremely racist as well.

There favourite pass-times include:

1.Listening to their "music"

2.Collecting STDs

3.Training their kids to steal from shops

4. Making fun of anyone who dosn't wear fake "designer" clothes and grunt all the time(e.g: emos greebos goths skaters etc)

5.Failing in school

Christ, I hate Chavs! They are a blight on society and if you ever see any, AVOID LIKE PLAGUE.

Why did God ever create them?

I knew someone who lived in a council flat which had a blue plaque by the main door telling that Jane Austin had previously lived there.

Four large flats in a former Georgian Town House. I'd describe this as unbelievably posh rather than chavtastic.

Chatham I do know is linked to the origin of the word. As stated, it is derived from the Gypsy population of which there is a high number of in Kent where Chatham is located which is also a hotbed of the modern day chav. These days i tend to think of anyone who is common as a chav. White fiat 500/merc/range rover. Louis Vuitton handbag (real). Pug.

I once was a youth worker and we had some gypsy girls come to play our girls for a football match. Now our girls were being a bit territorial in their attitudes, I was having none of it and I told them to make the visitors feel welcome. Great match, plenty of laughter and friendship I was so impressed with the gypsy girls conduct, a great bunch of teenagers.

"Well I'm sure they're all lovely under their trackies and yes but no but yes but as a middle class, entitled, chocolate-voiced toff, I don't judge. Yes, but you probably have a nice syrupy sounding voice so it sounds like your saying hello when you complain.

It's a little deep for syrup tbh. But yes, I rarely complain about anything. "

they can steal it. What I am saying is, my belief is that being a chav isn't a domain reserved for the likes who have come from council house roots. My view of a chav crosses into the term 'basic' i guess. Its not defined by wealth but status and taste. Am I the only one who thinks that way?

Council housed and violent originally I believe. The meaning now has nothing to do with the original meaning though, now the word chav portrays an image that some hate and others work hard to achieve whether from the richest or poorest homes.

Never heard snowflake used to describe chavs. If anything its those that would be describe as chav more likely to used the term to insult people who don't like prejudice. Snowflake is another term started to describe certain people and now misused to describe people who they seem to be threatened by so are actually the snowflakes themselves.

Same here. People call me posh sometimes because of my accent but I grew up in a council house that my parents bought. It was in Devon and mainly old people that lived around us. I was just brought up strictly by my mum as was a single parent from when I was 10. I never got into trouble, never had a detention, didn’t drink alcohol until after I left school, taught manners and respect for others. I’m just lucky I had strict parents but hated it at the time.

Charming

They not all bad people, it’s just their up bringing and community around the area.

Look at Cheryl from council estate but given the opportunity from the show with Girls Aloud she’s famous and even the riches guys want to be with her.

I was referring to your attitude towards women.

I think its just aimed at council house chavs

Both of us are from council estates. Some people in our area were awful but there was a much greater community spirit than anything we've experienced since.

Exactly some nice ones there who just need a role model."

As opposed to middle or upper class people who don't need role models?

My parents were my role models. They taught me to not judge people by where they live, what kind of education they have or the colour of their skin.

My ex is a painter and decorator has decorated some very nice houses. He's had more than a few non-chav women come on to him.

Sadly for them he doesn't do anal

I find the whole absense of a "role model" a complete load of bollocks.

You make your own decisions in life.

I grew up in a single parent family on a council estate. I am completely different to my siblings as I have several degrees and own my own home. I grafted. They didn't. No silver spoon, no injection of cash from mummy and (absent) daddy. You take responsibility for your own path in life.

Bloody hell this escalated somewhat didn’t it ?

What started as a bit of fun has degenerated into a typical fab forum fallout over a simple everyday term that we are all familiar with .

Who hasn’t walked past a McDonalds in the evening and seen a group of chavs outside it ?

And on council estates the groups that congregate are the bane of the neighbours life .

And yes I lived on council estates , and yes they were a pain . But of course that doesn’t mean every person from a council estate is a chav . Any more than than every person who comes from a posh background is a snob .

Some of my best mates are parents of kids who would be termed as chavs , and they are the first to admit that . But what can you do ? From groups of kids on bikes in their early teens to the late teens and early twenties boy and girl racers , chavs are here to stay . And they’re not all bad , like any group of kids than age , some are a proper pain but the majority are fine .

Don't you think this kind of discussion is useful though? It challenges stereotypes and makes people think a bit.

And this is why we still need things like International Women’s Day, unless you were talking about a man, in which case it doesn’t make a difference, show some respect.

I don't think its that black and white. Of course not everyone who is from a single parent family raised on an estate is doomed for failure. But as a child with no guidance and surrounded by negative social forces, you are more likely to be groomed or forced in some cases, to join a gang or commit knife crime. Some kids don't even get fed properly. Council estates aren't all created equally. Some are quite decent to live in yet some aren't safe and even the police have to tread carefully when present. So to suggest these vulnerable individuals failed because they chose to didn't try hard enough is wrong in my view. When you have little hope and the only way out appears to come from your local gangster, its quite likely these vulnerable, uneducated youngsters will succumb.

The expression goes further back in history to the word Chavi which Romany travellers used to describe unruly children they had and still have little to do with council houses.
