Assumptions

Last night I had a lady over for a meal (none site), one of the mom's from my daughters school. I spent the time cooking a meal, wine good music. Half way though the meal she say's "where did you get the food it is really tasty". I answer "I cooked it myself", she replies " oh because you are blind I thought you wouldn't be able to cook". The night ended soon after.

The question is do you assume or have you assumed something, then thought after wish I hadn't done that

I can understand your taking offence at that, but in truth, everyone makes assumptions.

Opinion is based on interpretation of known facts. there are always more facts than anyone can know (this goes for the greatest scientists and most knowledgeable philosophers as well as the most ignorant amongst us) so ALL opinions are based on certain assumptions and prejudices.

The trick is not to make no assumptions, the trick is not to let our assumptions close our minds to the possibility of new information, or facts which do not fit into the regular pattern of our own knowledge......

an 'ass (of) u (and) me' so I never assume anything.

Do not assume, as it makes an ass out of u and me.

That's what I teach peeps in my line of work.

Brilliantly said.

Op, she was ignorant of your condition , that is all, one could say that it led you to make assumptions about her.

On my course (counselling) we are learning to see what prejudices and assumptions we all bring to any relationship. The trick is to be aware and not let them influence our decisions.

We all make assumptions whether we are conscious of it or not.

How many of us "assume" that we aren't sure of our playmates history so choose to play safe?

Yes, some assumptions can make you seem an "Ass" but it really is a very popular trait, and may be the trainers should look for another quote

I think you make a good point JJ, we have to have a starting point and we often make assumptions to get started but there is a difference between an assumption which is generally flexible and open to adjustment and judgements which are another altogether.

Its a shame you chose to see this as a negative. By cooking a nice meal and saying you had done it yourself would in itself have changed her assumptions.

I train peeps not to make assumptions about anything, but to seek independent verifications instead.

If they make the wrong assumptions, it would be their necks on the block etc...

It is for their own interests to Teflon coat themselves!

i agree, challenging assumptions is something i do every day...i have been involved with the S.O.P.H.I.E foundation in a very periphial way. We all bring assumptions to every situation, being open to having them changed is something that can change someones life.

And to be fair assumptions probably save more lives than they cost in everyday life. I.E assume every circuit is live until you prove otherwise to name but one.

I would assume there is some limitations to what you can do cooking, although I am sure you must have adapted how you do things.

I don't think it is a bad thing to not know how people with disabilities live their lives and we will probably all assume unless we have asked a question or been told.

Hell I can't cook with good eyesight, so hats off to you !!

Well I'm about to make a massive assumption.

I'm assuming that the 3 bottles that I have standing outside in the yard to chill, will in fact be full of cider. I'm basing that assumption on the what is stated on the on the label. It says 'Cider'. So assuming that the label is correct, things are going swimmingly up till now.

I'm going to be even more daring now and will go on to assume that around 6.00 I'll be taking the top off the first bottle and consuming it's contents, assuming of course that the contents are in fact cider.

Based on past experience, I'll further assume the same for the remaining 2 bottles and then I'll assume I may be pissed afterwards.

I'll then go on to make an arsehole of myself, I assume.

As for cooking most people will cook when they are hungry enough.

I make loads of assumptions and generally I don’t regret many…

I assume some people are married because of how they behave.

I assume some streets aren’t a good place to leave my car.

I assume parking next to a battered and scratched car at the supermarket may result in dents in my doors.

I assume it’s not a good idea to count how much money is in my purse whilst standing next to a bunched of chavs hanging out outside the off-license.

I assume a lot of people haven’t read my profile and delete their messages.

I assume my mate will turn up in about 30 minutes.... and so all my bits are fresh and smooth.

The trick is knowing when it’s better to make an assumption than to keep an open mind.... and vice versa.

It is very true, most people assume it is natures way of self protection.

Just when you invite someone to your home( and not that many get though my door) you think that they would presume that you would do the cooking.
