But what if someone's idea I'd perfection includes sprouts?

Weird I agree ... but there may be people out there

The meat - not too dry. Full of flavour from fresh herbs (adds to the gravy).

If it's Pork the crackling has to be edible.

Not too large a selection of veg. Must be fresh except for peas/sweetcorn. Carrots finished with honey.

Crispy yet fluffy roast potatoes. Maris pipers or red potatoes. Has to be goose fat.

Homemade gravy, not bistro, tesco finest ready made is acceptable.

Yorkshire's can not be the ready made ones. The ones you cook in small silver trays are okay. They need to be big and crispy.

Large plates with no plate on show once the food is on there.

A winter or spring day.

Someone to wash the dishes afterwards.

Someone else-preferably a professional cook-making it.

Lots of green veg, puffy Yorkshire pudding, thin sliced meat, crisp on the outside, fluffy on the inside roast potatoes and mint sauce.

I lied. I just remembered I had one Xmas day, from work. It wasn't the best but it wasn't bad.

I LOVE a roast dinner.

I'm totally cooking one next week. It'll be a Thursday as that's my only day off but I don't care.

It's all about the potatoes and gravy. Thick homemade gravy and roast potatoes that are crispy on the outside and light and fluffy inside.

It's something very important to me. A tradition on a Sunday but not in the summer. I couldn't think of anything worse.

I don't add salt left right and centre but chocolate always tastes better on a Sunday and I put it down to the Sunday roast.

Roast beef. It has to be beef.

Being foreign, to me the greatest British invention has to be Paxo stuffing (and yes, it has to be Paxo- I have had homemade/restaurant made stuffing and it is not the same!) if I left the UK, I’d really miss it...

Parsnips is something I also came to discover here.

I’m not averse to cooking my own roast, but I am more or less a part of the furniture at the local Toby Carvery!

Camberley occasionally doncaster

Slow roast leg of lamb in a red wine and redcurrant gravy. Roast potatoes cooked in goose fat (drop some garlic and rosemary in the fat). Honey roast carrots, home made yorkies, roast asparagus.

Or swap out the meat for a rare peppered beef, with a port and mustard gravy.

Slow roast honey and mustard pork loin cooked in cider.

Lemon and tarragon butter chicken

I could go on, but I'm getting hungry.
